    摘要: A spring for use in downhole tools delivers a high force over a long deflection in a relatively uniform fashion. The spring is a tubular shape that is preferably metallic and is preferably plastically deformed into an undulating walled tube either before assembly into a downhole tool or downhole after assembly to the downhole tool. Alternatively the shape can be machined. Spacer rings are used inside and outside the tube as it is compressed to obtain the desired corrugated wall pattern and to prevent localized buckling that can cause wall failure. The spring can conduct pressurized fluids and be rotationally locked to transmit torque and to facilitate milling out. Some machining internally and/or externally can assist in forming the desired corrugated wall shape.

Various polymers can be used to make an imperious covering for run in that on the way starts to break down. Ideally the material for the cover disappears about the time of sealing or shortly thereafter.

    摘要: A milling assembly can be delivered downhole on wireline. Once at the desired location, a processor extends centralizing and driving wheels to initially position the assembly. The assembly has a cutter end with one or more mills or cutters that can be selectively radially extended. The entire cutter end can be rotated in an arcuate manner over a predetermined range. One or more cutter can be extended at a time and driven. The wheels are driven either in an uphole or downhole direction at the same time the arcuate motion can take place. Using a processor, different shapes in a surrounding tubular can be made such as windows for laterals, a plurality of openings for production or interior locator surfaces to properly position subsequent equipment with respect to openings already made by the device.

    摘要: A wellbore cleanup tool collects debris when moved in one direction downhole. A flow diverter is extended for such flow diversion when debris is collected. When running the tool in the opposite direction in the wellbore, the flow diverter is in whole or in part articulated to retract so as to reduce resistance to fluid that passes around the outside of the tool. A segmented diverter can have fixed and movable components that are guided. The movable components can become longitudinally offset from the fixed components for movement in the direction where maximum flow bypass around the outside of the tool is desired. In an alternative embodiment, the diverter segments can all be movable on an inclined track to retract against a bias force for fluid bias with movement of the tool in the opposite direction allowing the bias to push the segments on the inclined track for diversion of debris laden fluid into a capture volume in the tool.

    摘要: In one variation, a tool is disclosed that can run cladding into casing where the cladding interior is closed off by opposed cup seals and access to the volume between the cup seals exists through the tool body. “Cladding” comprises sleeves, scrolls, casing, tubing and liner strings. Pressure is applied to the interior of the cladding to expand it into gripping and sealed contact with the casing. An exterior gripping surface can be provided on the cladding to enhance grip upon expansion. The tool can be repositioned to expand lengths of cladding including tubing or casing.

    摘要: A closure mechanism for a flapper features a pinion on the ear extending from the flapper that is used to mount it for pivotal movement. A spring-loaded rack meshes with the pinion or pinions on the flapper so that when the flow tube swings the flapper open, rotation of the pinion teeth advances the teeth on the rack against the force of a spring. When the flow tube is retracted, the spring pushes the teeth on the rack in the opposite direction causing a rotational movement of the flapper toward closure in contact with a conforming seat.

    摘要: The removable plug features a solid material that is housed in a porous container that has its shape changed to transition from the run in shape to the set shape. A running string and setting tool that creates relative movement deliver the plug and pull on its lower end while holding the top stationary against a backing plate. The container is pulled into itself as the radial dimension grows for the set. There can be a mandrel that remains in position and can lock to the backing plate or alternatively there can be no mandrel or a removable mandrel. The porous container can be removed in a variety of ways to let the solid material escape to be removed with fluid circulating in the wellbore. Alternatively the mandrel can be undermined to let the solid material escape for recovery.
