An apparatus for delivering a flow of breathable gas to a patient for the treatment of Sleep Disordered Breathing (SDB) that is less obtrusive includes a nasal cannula, cannulae (2a, 2b), prongs, or pillows and may be sealed or unsealed with the nares of the patient in use. The cannula, pillows or prongs may be positioned on the face of the patient by a headgear (6). The cannula, pillows or prongs may be smaller, lighter, and/or less visible than other nasal cannula, cannulae, pillows or prongs and may therefore be less obtrusive to the patient.
Abstract:
A cushion pad for a mask worn by a patient, comprising a first side to contact skin of the patient, and a second side, opposite the first side, to contact or face the mask. The pad has a main body portion having a central portion shaped to cover a portion of the patient's nose extending from above the nose tip to the nasal bridge region without obstructing the patient's line of sight, and lateral side portions to extend downward and terminate along the sides of the nose or on the patient's cheeks. The main body is made of a breathable material, e.g., foam. The pad may include adhesive and/or an attached portion, e.g., a ring, to couple the pad to the patient and/or portion of the mask.
Abstract:
A CPAP or other ventilation system includes a mask, a flow generator, a positive or high pressure line to provide positive or high pressure air from the flow generator to the mask and a vacuum or return line provided to actively extract exhaled gas from the breathing chamber and/or the air delivery conduit of the mask. The vacuum or return line includes a vent outlet preferably positioned remote from the mask.
Abstract:
A connector system for use with an apparatus that delivers a supply of pressurized breathable air to a patient includes an air delivery conduit including an auxiliary conduit. The air delivery conduit and auxiliary conduit have a first end and a second end. A connector is provided to at least one of the first and second ends. The connector includes an inner tubular wall and an outer tubular wall surrounding the inner tubular wall and being concentric with the inner tubular wall. The inner and outer tubular walls define first and second passages that are isolated from one another. One of the first and second passages is configured to communicate with the air delivery conduit and the other of the first and second passages is configured to communicate with the auxiliary conduit.
Abstract:
A washout vent formed of or treated with hydrophobic or hydrophilic material, or a vent coated with hydrophobic or hydrophilic material, reduces noise and/or minimizes or precludes the formation of blockage in the vent pathway due to outflow of gas from a respiratory mask. One or the other or combinations of hydrophobic and hydrophilic materials may be used to repel or wick moisture away to minimize or preclude moisture buildup on vent surfaces and/or clogging of vent pathways, particularly when using humidified air. Sintered porous plastic hydrophobic or hydrophilic materials are utilized and the porosity may be varied integrally within the vent membrane or by forming the vent from layers of materials having different porosities.

A respiratory mask includes a mask frame, a forehead support provided to the mask frame and including a forehead member, and headgear including at least one strap adapted to connect to the forehead member. The forehead member includes one or more holes configured and positioned to allow at least one strap to form a strap loop that loops around at least a portion of the forehead member and arrange one or more layers of the strap loop between the headgear member and the patient's forehead in use.
Abstract:
An air delivery system includes a controllable flow generator operable to generate a supply of pressurized breathable gas to be provided to a patient for treatment. A touchless control system is associated with at least one control feature adapted to control at least one operating parameter of the flow generator. The touchless control system includes one or more sensors to detect patient hand movement and a controller to selectively activate the at least one control feature based on the patient hand movement detected by the one or more sensors.

A nasal cushion (30) comprises a substantially triangularly shaped frame (32) from which extends a membrane (34). The frame (32) has a scalloped edge (36) by which the cushion (30) is affixed to a mask body. The membrane (34) has an aperture (38) into which the wearer's nose is received. The membrane (34) is spaced away from the rim (40) of the frame (32), and its outer surface (41) is of substantially the same shape as the rim (40). Respective notches (42,44) receive the bridge of the wearer's nose. The wearer's nose is received through the aperture (38) into the chamber within the mask body (46). The seal forming portion (45) thus contacts both the surface of the wearer's nose and a portion of the wearer's face in the region between the base of the nose and the upper lip, and around the sides and over the bridge of the nose. The shape of the seal forming portion (45) is particularly suited to effectively seal the difficult region of the facial contour that is the crease between the sides of the nose and the face.
