The method includes maintaining a first subscription and a second subscription active in slotted idle states on a first RF chain on the mobile device. The first subscription being associated with a first SIM and the second subscription being associated with a second SIM. The method also includes maintaining a third subscription and a fourth subscription active in slotted idle states on a second RF chain on the mobile device. The third subscription being associated with a third SIM and the fourth subscription being associated with a fourth SIM. In the slotted idle states the first, second, third and fourth subscriptions are able to monitor pages in respective paging channel slots. Further, the method includes switching the third subscription to the first RF chain in response to the fourth subscription entering a dedicated traffic state.

A diversity receiver may be used to provide spatial diversity for the communication using the first radio access technology. Use of the diversity receiver to communicate using a second radio access technology may be started, with the communication using the first radio access technology continuing on the first transceiver.

During the session, a processor may calculate radio idle time periods in the active communication session, determine whether any of the radio idle time periods will exceed a predetermined threshold duration, and retune the shared radio resource to receive search samples on a frequency of the non-active network during radio idle time periods that exceed the predetermined threshold duration. Search samples may be stored for processing between radio idle time periods in order to maintain session information on a service associated with one SIM and provide service information to applications executing on the device during the active communication session.

The method further includes determining that the signal is not acquirable using the defined size for a predetermined number of consecutive acquisition attempts. The method further includes adjusting the size of the frequency bin based on the determining. The method further includes determining whether the signal is not acquirable using the adjusted size. In one implementation, the method further includes identifying the frequency error for the second radio access technology. In one implementation, the adjusting the size of the frequency bin comprises disregarding the frequency error for the second radio access technology. In one implementation the adjusting the size of the frequency bin is based on a most recently received frequency error for the first radio access technology.
