    Abstract: A communications device including a transmitter transmitting data signals to a network element of a wireless communications system using shared resources of an uplink of a first wireless access interface included in the network element, a receiver receiving data signals from the network element using shared resources of a downlink of the first wireless access interface, allocations of the shared resources being made by the network element and the uplink of the first wireless access interface is within a first set of resources, and a controller controlling the transmitter and receiver to transmit/receive signals representing data to/from another communications device using a second wireless access interface within a second set of resources formed from resources of the first set of resources for preferable allocation for device-to-device communications by the network element, resources of the second wireless access interface being time divided into at least a data and control regions.

    Abstract: A communications device and method for performing device-to-device communications. The method includes receiving, from a mobile communications network, an indication of whether a communications device can use at least one of first communications resources of a wireless access interface for performing device-to-device communications in accordance with a first mode of operation or second communications resources of the wireless access interface for performing device to device communications in accordance with the second mode of operation, and depending on the indication provided by the mobile communications network and the configuration of the first communications resources and/or the second communications resources, transmitting signals to the one or more other communications devices via the first communications resources or transmitting signals to the one or more other communications devices via the second communications resources in accordance with the second mode of operation using the device to device communications protocol.

    Abstract: A wireless telecommunications system including a base station, a terminal device, and a radio interface having a downlink radio frame structure including radio subframes including an arrangement of reference symbols for channel estimation. The base station determines a time period when certain terminal device specific data are not scheduled for transmission to the terminal device and communicates this information to the terminal device through selective suppression of at least one reference symbol. Different reference symbols may be suppressed to indicate different time periods. The terminal device monitors the transmitted reference symbols to identify where reference symbols are suppressed, to determine a time period when the terminal device is not expected to receive certain types of data and enter a reduced activity mode for that period, to conserve processing and power resources, and provide fast physical-layer signaling of periods during which the terminal device may conserve resources by decoding fewer transmissions.

    Abstract: A wireless telecommunication system includes base stations for communicating with terminal devices. One or more base stations support a power boost operating mode in which a base station's available transmission power is concentrated in a subset of its available transmission resources to provide enhanced transmission powers as compared to transmission powers on these transmission resources when the base station is not operating in the power boost mode. A base station establishes an extent to which one or more base stations in the wireless telecommunications system supporting the power boost operating mode conveys an indication of this to a terminal device. The terminal device receives the indication and uses the corresponding information to control its acquisition of a base station of the wireless telecommunication system, for example by taking account of which base stations support power boosting and/or when power boosting is supported during a cell attach procedure.

    Abstract: A group-based PDCCH capability in LTE. Information common to a group of UEs, such as those common to a virtual carrier, may be signalled in a group search space within the PDCCH.     Abstract: A network element forming a mobile communications network, and configured to provide a wireless access interface to one or more communications devices and to transmit downlink data to and receive uplink data from the communications devices via the wireless access interface. The downlink resources extend across a predetermined bandwidth and are time divided into plural timeframes. The network element includes a transmitter, and controller configured to control the transmitter to transmit control data to the communications devices in resources of a control channel formed from plural control channel modules formed from only part of the predetermined bandwidth and mutually exclusive from parts of the predetermined bandwidth from which the other control channel modules are formed. The plural control channel modules allow the control channel to be varied in bandwidth and adapted to the structure of the communications network, the communications devices being served and traffic conditions in the communications network.
