Abstract: Methods and systems for determining a cause of loss to a property for damage associated with an insurance-related event based upon data received from a second property. A smart home (or other building) controller and/or an insurance provider remote processor may generate a time sequence of events for damage associated with an insure-related event. The smart home controller or remote processor may also receive a time-sequence of events generated by a smart home controller associated with a second property. The smart home controller or remote processor may compare the two time-sequences of events to determine causes of loss associated with damage to the property. The compared data may be further used to assign a portion of the overall damage to each cause of loss. Subsequently, the smart home controller or remote processor may automatically generate an insurance claim for damage to the property associated with the insurance-related event.

Abstract: The following relates generally to providing virtual reality (VR) alerts to a driver of an autonomous vehicle. For example, a vehicle may be driving autonomously while the driver is watching a VR movie (e.g., on a pair of VR goggles); the driver may then receive a VR alert recommending that the driver take control of the vehicle (e.g., switch the vehicle from autonomous to manual mode). The following also relates to generating a VR feed for presenting real-time road conditions so that a user may preview a road segment. The following also relates to generating a VR feed corresponding to an event (e.g., a vehicle collision, a crime, a weather event, and/or a natural disaster).

Abstract: Methods and systems for providing emergency heating in an electric vehicle (EV) running out of power are described herein. An on-board computer or mobile device in an EV may determine that an amount of charge remaining for powering the EV is below a threshold charge level. The on-board computer or mobile device may then route the remaining amount of charge to power a heating system in the EV to maintain a temperature in the EV above a threshold temperature level, and shut down power to other components within the EV.

Abstract: The present embodiments relate to identifying property intrusion events based upon sensor data received from smart devices populated about a home. A smart home controller may compare the sensor data to baseline sensor data to dynamically identify an intrusion event that may be occurring. The controller may generate a notification and determine an action to perform to facilitate damage or risk mitigation. Accordingly, an individual associated with the home may be notified of the event, and then select to perform the action, such as via their mobile device. In some implementations, the controller may automatically perform the action. As a result, in response to computer identification of an intrusion event, corrective action may be taken or prompted, or otherwise any damage caused by the intrusion event may be mitigated, reducing insurance claims or claim amounts associated with intrusion events. Insurance discounts may be provided based upon the risk mitigation functionality.

Abstract: Methods and systems for power transfer and routing in a compartmentalized electric vehicle (EV) having detachable compartments, and for handing off a load from one EV to another EV for delivering the load to a destination are described herein. Each detachable compartment in the compartmentalized EV may have a separate power supply, motor, set of wheels, and/or autonomous operation features. The detachable compartments may attach to each other, such that each of the detachable compartments combine to form a compartmentalized EV that travels to a particular location.

Abstract: Methods and systems for assigning damage to a property to causes of loss are provided. A smart home controller and/or an insurance provider remote processor (or server) may generate a time sequence of events for damage associated with an insure-related event. The time-sequence of events may be analyzed to identify causes of loss associated with damage to the property. The smart home controller or insurance provider remote processor may further analyze the time-sequence of event to determine a portion of the overall damage associated with each cause of loss. Subsequently, according to certain aspects, the smart home controller or insurance provider remote processor may automatically generate a prepopulated insurance claim for damage associated with the insurance-related event, and/or transmit the automatically prepared insurance claim to an insured for their review, approval, and/or modification, such as via wireless communication to a mobile device associated with the insured.

Abstract: The present embodiments relate to detecting instances of individuals being in peril within an independent or assisted living environment. According to certain aspects, with an individual's permission or affirmative consent, a hardware controller (such as a smart or interconnected home controller, or even a mobile device) may receive and analyze sensor data detected within the independent or assisted living environment to determine whether an individual may be in peril. In this circumstance, the hardware controller may generate a notification that indicates the situation and may communicate the notification to a proper individual, such as a family member or care giver, who may be in a position to mitigate or alleviate any risks posed by the situation. The foregoing functionality also may be used by an insurance provider to generate, update, or adjust insurance policies, premiums, rates, or discounts, and/or make recommendations to an insured individual.

Abstract: The present embodiments relate to managing the operation of devices within a home or other property based upon received image data. According to certain aspects, a controller within the home may receive, with customer permission or consent, image data from image sensors disposed throughout the home. The controller may analyze the image data in combination with profile data for individuals associated with the home to determine that a certain individual is indicated in the image data. The controller may further determine an action to facilitate based upon the individual being detected in a certain location of the property, and may direct smart devices to perform that action. As a result, the present embodiments may facilitate providing occupant-location based (or occupant-presence or preference based) functionality, functions, or services, and/or directing operations of smart devices located about a property based upon occupant location, presence, preferences, and/or activities at the property.
