Abstract:
Methods, apparatus, systems and articles of manufacture to optimize power consumption and capacity in a multi-mode communication system are disclosed. A utilization factor controller is to estimate power consumption values corresponding to a plurality of first utilization factor and second utilization factor pairs, the first utilization factor corresponding to utilization of the first transceiver that is to communicate using a first protocol, the second utilization factor corresponding to utilization of the second transceiver that is to communicate using a second protocol different form the first protocol, the utilization factor controller to select a first utilization factor and second utilization factor pair based on the estimated power consumption value. A transmission time controller is to calculate first and second transmission times to be used by the first and second transceiver based on the selected first utilization factor and second utilization factor pair. A data allocator is to allocate data for transmission by the first transceiver and the second transceiver according to the first and second transmission times.
Abstract:
A method of powerline communications in a powerline communications (PLC) network including a first PLC device and at least a second PLC device. The first PLC device transmits a data frame to the second node over a PLC channel. The second PLC device has a data buffer for storing received information. The second PLC device runs a flow control algorithm which determines a current congestion condition or a projected congestion condition of the data buffer based on at least one congestion parameter. The current congestion condition and projected congestion condition include nearly congested and fully congested. When the current or projected congestion condition is either nearly congested or fully congested, the second PLC device transmits a BUSY including frame over the PLC channel to at least the first PLC device. The first PLC device defers transmitting of any frames to the second PLC device for a congestion clearing wait time.
Abstract:
An orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) receiver includes detection logic, offset generation logic, tone erasure logic, and correction generation logic. The detection logic is configured to detect a signal containing a block of samples that includes a narrowband interferer from a communication channel. The offset generation logic is configured to align a frequency of the narrowband interferer to a center of a subcarrier frequency of the communication channel to produce an offset signal thereby introducing inter-carrier interference (ICI). The tone erasure logic is configured to remove the subcarrier frequency from the offset signal to produce an interferer erased offset signal. The correction generation logic is configured to remove the ICI to produce an interferer erased signal.
Abstract:
A network system comprising a first network element and a second network element. The first network element is programmed to provide the step of first, communicating to the second network element a plurality of configuration parameter sets. Each configuration parameter set corresponds to a respective frame fragment and comprises a parameter value that differs in value from the parameter value in another configuration parameter set in the plurality of configuration parameter sets. The first network element also is programmed to provide the step of second, communicating a frame, to the second network element, in a plurality of frame fragments, wherein each frame fragment in the plurality of frame fragments is communicated according to a respective parameter value in the plurality of configuration parameter sets.
Abstract:
An ultrasonic communication circuit is disclosed. The circuit includes an ultrasonic transmitter arranged to transmit a training signal having a frequency to a remote transceiver over an ultrasonic communication channel. An ultrasonic receiver is arranged to receive information from the remote transceiver in response to the training signal. The ultrasonic transmitter is arranged to transmit a data signal to the remote transceiver. The data signal has a duty cycle determined by the information.
Abstract:
Apparatus (and related methods) for a power line communication network include a processor configured to receive beacons over a communication interface. The processor determines a link quality indicator (LQI) for each received beacon and ignores the beacons for at most a predetermined maximum number of beacon receptions when each LQI is below a threshold. The processor responds to a received beacon if the LQI for such received beacon exceeds the threshold or if a predetermined maximum number of beacons have been received with LQIs below the threshold.
Abstract:
Embodiments include methods of powerline communications using a preamble with band extension is provided. A method may include receiving a packet data unit PDU. Bit-level repetition is applied to at least a portion of the PDU to create a repeated portion. Interleaving is performed per a subchannel. Pilot tones are inserted in the interleaved portion. Each each data tone is modulated with respect to a nearest one of the inserted pilot tones. The PDU is transmitted over a power line
Abstract:
Systems and methods for building, transmitting, and receiving frame structures in power line communications (PLC) are described. Various techniques described herein provide a preamble design using one or more symbols based on a chirp signal that yields a low peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). According to some techniques, the preamble may be constructed with one or more different types and/or number of symbols configured to identify a PLC domain operating in close physical proximity to another PLC domain. According to other techniques, one or more preamble symbols may be interspersed within a header portion of a PLC frame to facilitate estimation of a frame boundary and/or sampling frequency offset, for example, in the presence of impulsive noise. According to yet other techniques, a PLC detector may be capable of receiving and decoding two or more types of PLC frames (e.g., using different PLC standards).
