The present invention provides novel adenosine receptor antagonists, more particularly, A1 adenosine receptor antagonists. Pharmaceutical compositions comprising an A1 adenosine receptor antagonist disclosed herein and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier are further provided. Compositions also include diagnostic assay-type probes comprising a novel A1 adenosine receptor antagonist that is labeled or conjugated with radioactive or non-radioactive material. Methods for treating A1 adenosine receptor related disorders comprising administering an A1 adenosine receptor antagonist of the invention are also disclosed. The novel A1 adenosine receptor antagonist compositions find further use in diagnostic and imaging methods.

In some embodiments, a medical device adapted for insertion into the body includes an elongated shaft and an electrically conductive path extending spirally about a portion of the shaft. The conductive path is capable of being connected to a current source. The medical device can further include one or more contrast agents (such as MRI contrast agents, radiopaque materials, and/or ultrasound visible materials), which can be arranged in a predetermined manner.

An atherectomy burr has an operating diameter that is larger than the diameter of a catheter in which the burr is routed. The burr may include a polymeric balloon that is coated with an abrasive and that expands when the burr is rotated. When the burr is rotated, the polymeric tube expands by centrifugal force. The maximum expansion of the burr is controlled by an expansion mechanism. Various mechanisms are disclosed for controlling the maximum diameter of the burr thus preventing the burr from over expanding. In addition, the present invention includes a system for preventing the loose ablated particulate from reembolizing in the distal vasculature. The system includes an ablation burr that has abrasive disposed on the proximal end that is pulled back toward the guide catheter to ablate the lesion. The burr creates a seal when expanded to block the ablated particulate so that the aspiration system can remove the particulate from the patient vessel or stent. Alternatively, the burr system may include a self expanding seal that is deployed out of the aspiration sheath so that a slight vacuum can remove the large loose particulate form, the patient's vessel or stent.

Disclosed are hybrid coatings for implantable medical devices. Such coatings include a first layer of an aqueous dispersion or emulsion of an organic acid functional group containing polymer, a crosslinker and a therapeutic agent dispersed therein. The coating also includes a second layer of an aqueous solution or dispersion of an organic acid functional group-containing bio-active agent. The hybrid coatings are especially suited for preventing restenosis of endoprostheses by the combined action of the therapeutic agent and the bio-active agent. Methods of making and using devices coated with such compositions are also provided.

A substrate such as a catheter or a guide wire is provided with a lubricous, hydrophilic abrasion-resistant coating by: a) coating said substrate with a first aqueous coating composition comprising an aqueous dispersion or emulsion of a polymer having organic acid functional groups and a polyfunctional crosslinking agent having functional groups capable of reacting with organic acid groups, and drying the coating to obtain a substantially water-insoluble coating layer having excess polyfunctional including functional groups being reactive with organic acid groups remaining, and b) contacting the dried coating layer obtained in a) with a second aqueous coating composition comprising an aqueous solution or dispersion of a hydrophilic polymer having organic acid functional groups, and drying the combined coating, the hydrophilic polymer thereby becoming bonded to the polymer of the first coating composition through the excess crosslinking agent. The drying can be carried out at ambient (room) temperature.
