Abstract:
Redundant metal-to-metal seals for use with internal valves are described. A plug having redundant sealing functionality for use with a poppet of an internal valve includes a tapered surface to sealingly engage a seat of the poppet. Additionally, the plug includes a seal adjacent the tapered surface and disposed in a groove defined by the plug to sealingly engage the seat.
Abstract:
A gas regulator includes an actuator, a regulator valve, and pressure loading device. The pressure loading device provides a pressure load to a surface of a diaphragm of the actuator to act against a downstream pressure being applied to the opposite surface of the diaphragm and being controlled by the regulator. As the downstream pressure varies and the diaphragm displaces to move a control element to regulate the downstream pressure, the pressure loading device maintains a specified load pressure. The regulator may further include a balanced trim applying a balancing force to offset a force of an upstream pressure on the control element.
Abstract:
A regulator having a valve body defining a flow-path for a fluid and having a valve seat, an actuator casing coupled to the valve body, a control member disposed within the actuator casing and adapted for displacement relative to the valve body and the valve seat for regulating a flow of the fluid through the flow-path by moving between an open position and a closed position wherein the control member engages the valve seat, and a spring operatively coupled to the control member and biasing the control member toward the open position. The control member includes a surface facing the valve seat that is recessed. The recessed surface may be a counter-bore, or may have a convex shape, conical shape, or other appropriate recessed surface. So configured, the regulator displaced improved stability in high inlet pressure, low output pressure, high flow rate implementations.
Abstract:
A gas regulator includes an actuator, a regulator valve, and a secondary device. Downstream pressure feedback is provided to the actuator and the secondary device via a Pitot tube disposed within an outlet of the regulator valve. The Pitot tube has a first branch having an end connected to the actuator to place the actuator control cavity and diaphragm in fluid communication with downstream pressure within the outlet for maintaining the outlet pressure at an actuator setpoint pressure. The Pitot tube also has a second branch having an end connected to the secondary device to place the interior of the secondary device in fluid communication with downstream pressure within the outlet for responding to changes in the downstream pressure when the outlet pressure diverges from a predetermined normal operating pressure range.
Abstract:
Balanced plug assemblies and pressure regulators having balanced plug assemblies are described herein. A pressure regulator disclosed herein includes a device body defining a fluid passageway between an inlet and an outlet. The device body defines a channel between the fluid passageway and a pressure sense chamber. The pressure regulator includes a seat in the fluid passageway, a stem having a flange, and a plug coupled to the stem. The pressure regulator also includes a stem guide disposed in the channel of the device body. The flange of the stem disposed in a balance chamber of the stem guide and divides the balance chamber into a first balance chamber portion and a second balance chamber portion. The stem guide at least partially forms a balance passage that fluidly couples the pressure sense chamber and the second balance chamber portion.
Abstract:
A vent limiting device adapted to be operably coupled to an exhaust vent of a fluid regulator. The vent limiting device includes a housing, a poppet disposed in the housing, and a retaining element arranged to retain the poppet in the housing. The housing has a fluid passageway extending between a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet. The poppet is movably disposed in the housing, responsive to pressure at the fluid outlet, to control fluid flow through the fluid passageway. The housing includes one or more retaining features that engage the retaining element to retain the retaining element in the housing.
Abstract:
A valve plug adapted for sealing engagement with a seat ring. The valve plug includes a cylindrical body with an annular flange having a groove. A pair of bores is disposed in the body, each bore having a first diameter, a first end, and a second end disposed within the body. Each bore is also adapted to receive a fastener to couple the valve plug to a mounting portion, and a recess is disposed at the second end of the bore, forming a stepped portion. The recess is adapted to receive at least one of a portion of a retainer or a portion of the fastener. A sealing disk is disposed within the groove of the annular flange and is one of a machined sealing disk or a molded sealing disk.
Abstract:
Multidirectional vent limiting devices for use with fluid regulators are described. An example vent limiting device includes a housing having an interior surface, a fluid inlet, a fluid outlet, and a first fluid passageway in fluid communication with and located between the fluid inlet and the fluid outlet. The interior surface includes a first sealing surface that defines a portion of the first fluid passageway. The vent limiting device further includes a stem having a first end, a second end located opposite the first end, and an axial portion located between the first end and the second end. The vent limiting device further includes a poppet having a first end, a second end located opposite the first end, a second sealing surface that defines a portion of the first fluid passageway, and a bore that defines a second fluid passageway in fluid communication with and located between the fluid inlet and the fluid outlet. The first end of the stem is rigidly coupled to the poppet. The poppet is slidable in an axial direction within the housing between an open position and a closed position. The second sealing surface contacts the first sealing surface when the poppet is in the closed position to close off the first fluid passageway.
