Abstract:
A filter cartridge which is environmentally friendly in that it is made up of components which are all incinerateable. The ends of a filter element are sealed using potting compound and plastic endcaps. The upper endcap, which is closed, has a pressure relief aperture associated therewith to prevent bowing. In a plugged filter condition the high-downward pressure introduced on the upper endcap is compensated by providing the cartridge with centering ribs which bottom on an associated ledge in the housing to provide a positive stop for the top endcap, preventing it from being driven down into and through the filter element. Rubber gaskets are associated with the respective endcaps, and are reliably secured to the endcaps by being snap fit into grooves molded into the plastic of the endcaps. The lower endcap utilizes a simple radial seal gasket which is both highly effective and also positioned to avoid structural crushing forces on the cartridge. A keying system prevents the installation of improper filters.
Abstract:
An environmentally friendly acid neutralizing filter cartridge is adapted to be mounted in a cartridge mounting body of an engine oil circuit for filtering particulates and neutralizing acid in oil. The filter cartridge comprises a support housing that comprises substantially no metal parts such that the filter cartridge can be readily incinerated. A full flow particulate filter and a bypass particulate filter are arranged in the support housing. A bed of acid neutralizing particles is contained in the support housing. The housing is configured such that a predetermined primary flow path is defined through the filter cartridge that passes through the full flow particulate filter and bypassing the bed of acid neutralizing particles; and a predetermined bypass path is defined through the filter cartridge that passes, in sequence, through the bed of acid neutralizing particles and the bypass particulate filter.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for filtering a liquid utilize a filter apparatus including a bypass filter, a full flow filter, and a flow balancing element for dividing a total inlet flow of fluid to the filter apparatus into a bypass portion, passing through the bypass filter, and a full flow portion, passing through the full flow filter. The bypass filter has a lower filtering efficiency than the full flow filter element, so that a venturi tube is not required for causing the bypass portion to pass through the bypass filter. The flow balancing element divides the flow into a desired bypass portion and a desired full flow portion, at a predetermined operating temperature. Below the operating temperature, the bypass portion increases and the full flow portion decreases, the bypass portion becoming greater that the full flow portion at a second predetermined temperature below the operating temperature.
Abstract:
The present invention employs cross-flow to extend operation time of filtration devices and to increase filtration efficiency. The filtration device with cross-flow function consists of a filter, a case for containing the filter and a diffuser. There are an inlet and an outlet set on the case. The diffuser is set inside the filter along longitudinal direction. The diffuser consists of a reducing section, a throat section and a flared section for producing cross-flow so as to prevent the impurities and particles in the fluid to form cake on the inner surface of filter, so the operation time is therefore greatly increased. A drain outlet is set for adjusting the impurities and particles concentrations of the fluid inside the filter for further extending the effective operation time.
Abstract:
Impurities contained in a fluid are removed by a filter having a housing containing a full flow filter, a bypass filter, and a conduit. The conduit includes a pressure reduction section. The full flow filter, bypass filter, and conduit are positioned such that the bypass filter is downstream of the full flow filter, and the pressure reduction section creates a pressure differential across the bypass filter that draws a predetermined portion of the fluid through the bypass filter. All of the fluid passes through the full flow filter. The predetermined portion of the fluid that passes through full flow filter is also filtered a second time by being drawn through the bypass filter.
Abstract:
A filter system in which a housing and an environmentally friendly filter cartridge are coordinated to provide ease of change of the filter cartridge and reliable operation. The cartridge contains no metal parts and is readily incinerateable. The housing is provided with a number of nulluniversalitynull features including a changeable bottom which allows the housing to operate as a fuel filter, a lubrication filter, or a hydraulic filter in different applications. The housing and cartridge are configured to provide support for the plastic elements of the cartridge to prevent crushing of the filter under normal and abnormal filter operating conditions. A key system associated with the cartridge and the housing provides assurance that the correct filter is installed for a particular application.
Abstract:
The invention concerns a fuel drawing device for a motor vehicle tank comprising a housing (100) bearing a drawing pump (190) and a filter (180) arranged on the pump (190) outlet conduit, characterized in that the filter is ring-shaped and is arranged in a chamber radially external to the housing (100) and the pump (190) is arranged in the filter (180) central space.
Abstract:
An adjustable continuous filtration system; a continuous split-stream bypass filtration system; a method for controlling the proportion of a fluid recycled through a filtration system; a method for controlling the proportion of a fluid which is routed to the filter of a filtration system, and the proportion of the fluid which is discharged from the system without passing through the filter; and a method for controlling the quality of cooking fats and cooking oils. The mechanisms for controlling the proportion of fluid routed or recycled to a filter depend on the size or width of orifices in passageways conveying the fluid, including the restriction of one or more of the orifices. A needle valve beneficially provides a continuous range of variation of orifice size. If the quality of cooking fat or cooking oil discharged from the filtration system is below industry standards, the proportion of the cooking fat or cooking oil routed or recycled to the filter is increased. If the quality of the discharged cooking fat or cooking oil is appreciably above industry standards, the proportion of the cooking fat or cooking oil routed or recycled to the filter is decreased.
Abstract:
A fuel pump module disposed within a vehicle fuel tank has a fuel pump therein to draw fuel from the fuel tank and deliver that fuel under pressure to the vehicle engine, and a jet pump driven by the fuel pump to lower the pressure within the module to draw fuel from the fuel tank through a filtered inlet of the module when the fuel pump is operating. When the fuel pump is not operating, such as when the vehicle is not in use, the jet pump ceases to operate and the pressure within the module returns to that of the fuel tank. When the level of fuel in the fuel tank is lower than that within the fuel pump module and the pump is turned off, a portion of the fuel within the module returns to the fuel tank, through the filtered inlet of the module thereby dislodging at least some of the contaminants trapped by the filter.
Abstract:
A fluid filter assembly which is constructed and arranged to threadedly mount onto an engine block mounting base includes an enclosing outer shell, a filtering element positioned within the outer shell so as to define an annular clearance space between the outer shell and the filtering element. A nutplate is assembled to the outer shell so as to close the outer shell and provide an internally-threaded mounting portion for attachment to the engine block mounting base. The sidewall which defines the threaded mounting portion is free of any flow openings therethrough. A seal arrangement including an inner seal positioned between the nutplate and the filter element and an outer seal positioned between the engine block mounting base and the nutplate is provided as part of the fluid filter assembly. The nutplate and inner seal are designed to cooperate with each other so as to define a plurality of flow passageways extending between the nutplate and inner seal and providing a flow path from the engine block mounting base to the annular clearance space.
