    摘要: A fluid filter assembly which is constructed and arranged to threadedly mount onto an engine block mounting base includes an enclosing outer shell, a filtering element positioned within the outer shell so as to define an annular clearance space between the outer shell and the filtering element. A nutplate is assembled to the outer shell so as to close the outer shell and provide an internally-threaded mounting portion for attachment to the engine block mounting base. The sidewall which defines the threaded mounting portion is free of any flow openings therethrough. A seal arrangement including an inner seal positioned between the nutplate and the filter element and an outer seal positioned between the engine block mounting base and the nutplate is provided as part of the fluid filter assembly. The nutplate and inner seal are designed to cooperate with each other so as to define a plurality of flow passageways extending between the nutplate and inner seal and providing a flow path from the engine block mounting base to the annular clearance space.

    摘要: A unitary nutplate for a fluid filter assembly provides a threaded mounting interface between an engine block mounting base and the remainder of the fluid filter assembly. The unitary nutplate is designed with an enlarged inside diameter in order to reduce the moment arm between the outer shell of the fluid filter assembly and the filtering element. With the enlarged inside diameter, the annular sidewall of the unitary nutplate does not include any flow passageways for the entering fluid and accordingly other flow passageways are created. In one arrangement, the nutplate has a generally cylindrical lower wall which cooperates with an inner seal which is designed with fluid flow passageways. In an alternate nutplate design, depending projections from the lower edge of the nutplate provide a series of flow passageways therebetween and the cooperating inner seal does not include flow passageways.

The inner seal is positioned between the nutplate and the filtering element and cooperates with the nutplate in order to provide a plurality of flow paths between the inner seal and the nutplate from the engine mounting base to the annular clearance space. The outer seal is positioned between the engine block mounting base and the nutplate and includes a pair of spaced-apart ribs which provide a sealing interface against the engine block mounting base.

    摘要: A water drain valve for use in cooperation with a fuel filter having a water separation capability includes a valve housing, a flow-control piston disposed within the valve housing, a first sealing grommet defining a water flow path into the valve housing, a second sealing grommet defining an air flow path out of said valve housing and a spring-biased control lever assembled to the valve housing and cooperating with the flow-control piston so as to rotate the piston from a drain valve normally-closed condition to a drain valve normally-pen condition. The valve housing is a unitary casting having a sidewall defining first and second flow apertures, one of which receives the first sealing grommet and the other of which receives the second sealing grommet. The flow-control piston includes a first part-spherical portion which includes a water drain passageway therethrough leading to a drain opening which is defined by the valve housing. The flow-control piston also includes a second part-spherical portion defining an air flow passageway therethrough leading from the drain opening. In the normally-closed condition, the flow-control piston is turned such that the first part-spherical portion closes the flow communication between the water drain passageway and the water flow path. Concurrently, the second part-spherical portion closes the flow communication between the air flow passageway and the air flow path. In the opened condition, there is flow communication between the water drain passageway and the water flow path and between the air flow passageway and the air flow path for draining water from the fuel filter and providing vent air into the fuel filter.

    摘要: A fuel filter constructed and arranged with a heater and designed for fuel-water separation includes a unitary housing (casting) which has an open top to be closed by a threaded lid and a closed base which in combination with a surrounding sidewall defines an interior space. A fuel filter cartridge including a filter element, centertube, and top and bottom endplates is disposed in the interior space such that there is a water collection space between the bottom endplate and the closed base of the housing. The lid includes a plurality of snap-fit fingers arranged in an annular array for press-on attachment to the top endplate. A heater ring is provided within the housing and is positioned around the filter cartridge. The heater ring provides both a flow path for entering fuel and a plurality of positive-temperature-coefficient stones which assist in the heating of the fuel. Control of the heater ring is provided by a heater connector and thermostat combination. The thermostat senses the temperature of the housing near the heater ring and is designed to provide an open circuit when the designed temperature is exceeded. A drain valve is mounted to the housing in flow communication with the water collection space and is operated by a manual lever which controls the movement of a spring-biased plunger. A water-in-fuel sensor is mounted to the housing and extends into the water collection space for deriving conductivity readings.

    摘要: A fluid filter for assembly onto a filter head includes a combination of features such that the assembly of the fluid filter onto the filter head establishes radial flow paths within the fluid filter. The filter head includes an externally threaded outer wall and includes an annular inner wall which defines a flow opening. The inner wall is shaped with a protruding portion and a substantially horizontal bearing surface. The fluid filter includes an enclosing outer shell and a filtering element positioned within the outer shell. A support spring is positioned in the base of the outer shell so that it is axially positioned between the outer shell and the filtering element. An internally threaded nutplate is assembled to the outer shell and threadedly engages the externally-threaded outer wall of the filter head. An inner seal is positioned between the nutplate and the primary filtering element and is designed so as to define a hollow interior. Threaded engagement between the filter head and the nutplate begins the installation procedure. As threaded engagement continues, the protruding portion is inserted into the hollow interior and the bearing surface abuts up against the upper surface of the inner seal. With continued threaded engagement, the bearing surface pushes the inner seal and filtering element axially downward in the direction of the support spring, causing the inner seal to move axially away from the nutplate creating a radial flow path between the inner seal and the nutplate.

    摘要: A threaded fastener which is constructed to be turned in one direction by a square socket drive includes a threaded stem and an integral modified head arranged with four raised projections which are circumferentially spaced. Each of the four raised projections includes a substantially flat wall portion and a curved and inclined ramp portion. The four flat wall portions effectively define a square center region which is compatibly sized to receive a one-half inch square socket drive. Rotation of the square socket drive in a counterclockwise direction causes the sides of the square socket drive to engage the flat wall portions so as to turn the threaded fastener in a counterclockwise direction. Any attempt to rotate the square socket drive in a clockwise direction causes the sides of the square socket drive to ride up along the ramp portions and ride out of engagement with the modified head of the threaded fastener. In a related embodiment of the present invention, the four raised projections have their orientation reversed so that the square socket drive is effective to threadedly advance the fastener when the drive is turned in a clockwise direction. Likewise, in this alternate embodiment, when the square socket drive is turned in a counterclockwise direction, it rides up along the ramp portions and come out of engagement with the modified head. As described, the present invention includes a one directional threaded fastener which is manipulated by a square socket drive.

    摘要: A fuel filter for an engine includes a housing having an interior space and is assembled into a fuel flow path between a source of fuel and the engine. The housing includes a passageway which has an inlet aperture which is used to control the delivery of fuel to either the engine or back to the source of fuel. The housing also includes a return-fuel passageway which is in flow communication with the interior space and is adapted to couple to the source of fuel. A filter cartridge is installed within the housing and includes an end cap with an air vent tube having an inlet opening. The air vent tube is designed so as to assemble into the passageway, so as to plug the inlet aperture. Once the inlet aperture is plugged by the air vent tube, the flow entrance to the passageway is raised from the inlet aperture to the inlet opening of the air vent tube. The plugging of the inlet aperture by the air vent tube allows fuel to be delivered to the engine. When the air vent tube is not assembled into the inlet aperture, fuel is drained back to the source and does not reach the engine. The fuel filter further includes a pressure-regulated control valve which is installed within the return fuel passageway and is activated by the internal pressure within the housing. This valve permits excess fuel to be returned to the source of fuel.
