摘要: First and second quill members introduce water treatment chemicals to a water stream advancing within water containing equipment having only a single opening. The first quill member extends through a sealed opening on a wall of the equipment and has a first inlet located outside of the equipment, a first outlet located within the equipment in the path of the advancing water stream, and a first passage extending between the first and second inlets. The second quill member is mounted on the first quill member and has a second inlet located outside of the equipment and a second outlet located within the equipment in the path of the advancing water stream. The second outlet is spaced from the first outlet and a second passage, coaxial with the first, extends between the second inlet and the second outlet. A first chemical substance flowing through the first passage and issuing from the first outlet into the water stream thereby avoids mixing in a concentrated form with a second chemical substance flowing through the second passage and issuing from the second outlet into the water stream. The outlet tip ends for the outlet tubes are beveled into the direction of flow of the advancing water stream and each beveled tip end may have a notch formed at an extremity to increase turbulence. The first and second outlets are preferably located at maximum distances from each other and from the walls of the water containing equipment.

摘要: This invention relates to an improved procedure and apparatus for making colored polyurethane foam products, such as carpet underlay and the like, as well as the improved colored product itself. Such a procedure entails the utilization of at least one valve assembly within a color dosing manifold such that the valve itself is simultaneously in contact with both the outside surface and the inside surface of the manifold. Such a disposition for a valve assembly permits color to be introduced directly into a binder (i.e., polyol and isocyanate) or polyol stream in order to substantially eliminate any color remaining in contact solely with the inside walls of the manifold. This in turn permits thorough mixing of the binder and colorant and substantially reduces the response time from opening the valve to producing colored polyurethane materials (such as polyurethane foam), thereby effectively eliminating the production of waste polyurethane product. The inventive configuration comprising a specific type of ball valve and/or the placement of a plurality of such disposed valves in a radial configuration on the manifold are also contemplated within the invention.

摘要: Apparatus for providing a frothed mixture of milk, air and steam has a mild reservoir, and a steam boiler. A pump draws milk from the milk reservoir and delivers it to an inlet of a Y-connector forming a mixing chamber. A second inlet of the Y-connector is fed with steam. The pump and the steam pressure are controlled such that the milk and steam are substantially of an equal pressure. The milk-steam mix is fed to a jet and exits from its outlet nozzle. The milk-steam mix expands as it exits from the nozzle. Furthermore, the flow of the milk-steam mix draws air into the mix by way of an air inlet conduit whereby a frothed product of milk, air and steam is produced at the nozzle.

摘要: A process and apparatus for spraying a liquid into a flowing vapor stream is disclosed. Multiple nozzles for injection of a liquid are radially distributed about a pipe containing a flowing vapor stream. The nozzles are arranged so that the cone shaped spray pattern from the nozzles is at least in part parallel to and near the pipe wall. The number of nozzles, and the spray pattern of each, provides 100% overlapping spray of liquid droplets within the pipe. The invention can be used to neutralize acidic vapor streams, absorb noxious fumes, or quench thermal reactions. The invention is especially useful in quenching hot vapor streams. Quenching hot cracked products from an FCC reactor in the transfer line improves yields, and permits higher catalytic cracking reactor temperatures.

摘要: A two-phase mixture of at least two fluids which is supplied with subsonic velocity through associated feed lines (4, 3) is accelerated to sound velocity by means of a nozzle (2). Upon the exit from the narrowest cross-sectional area (6) of the nozzle (2) the two-phase mixture is expanded in an expansion chamber (10) to supersonic velocity. The two-phase mixture expanded to supersonic velocity is thereafter brought to ambient pressure substantially as a one-phase mixture after flowing off through a diffuser passage (9) by means of a shock wave built up in an outlet channel (8). The outlet channel (8) has a constant cross-sectional area the hydraulic diameter of which is as great as the hydraulic diameter of the narrowest cross-sectional area (6) of the nozzle (2) or amounts to up to the three-fold of this hydraulic diameter. An outlet (11) provided with a relief valve (22) is connected to the expansion chamber (10). After termination of a starting operation a continuous operation appears with the shock wave being stably maintained in axial direction in the outlet channel. In this manner a good mixture of the fluids can be obtained because of the angular flow and the relative velocities of the fluids, by condensation during the transition in the two-phase condition as well as by boiling and vaporization in the range of the supersonic flow and following thereto in the shock wave because of its "shattering effect".

摘要: A method and apparatus for producing a synthetic board from cellulosic or lignocellulosic fibers is disclosed wherein a standard isocyanate binder is emulsified and immediately applied to the fibers before consolidation into a finished board product. The apparatus includes an emulsification and application nozzle comprising a diluent inlet, a binder inlet, a mixing section for emulsifying the diluent and the binder, and a spray nozzle for applying the binder/diluent emulsion to the fibers. The method includes supplying a binder stream, supplying a diluent stream, emulsifying the binder with the diluent and immediately applying the emulsion to the fibers. The method further includes flushing the binder/diluent emulsion using the diluent at the end of a binder application run to prevent curing of the emulsion and clogging of the apparatus. The present invention can be used to apply the binder/diluent emulsion to the fibers either in the blowline or downstream of the blowline, such as in the blender.
