摘要: A mixing assembly for use in a semi-continuous process for producing liquid personal care compositions, such as shampoos, includes a main feed tube carrying a base of the composition to be produced, a plurality of injection tubes in selective fluid communication with the main feed tube, and an orifice provided in a wall at an end of the main feed tube downstream of the plurality of injection tubes. The wall in which the orifice is provided includes a curved (e.g., semispherical) entry surface on an upstream or inlet side of an orifice, and a curved (e.g., semi-elliptical) exit surface on a downstream or outlet side of the orifice. The orifice may have a rectangular or elliptical shape. By maintaining symmetry of the injection tubes with respect to the orifice, and leveraging delay between introduction of dosed modules and increased viscosity, effective mixing may be achieved with minimal energy.

摘要: First and second quill members introduce water treatment chemicals to a water stream advancing within water containing equipment having only a single opening. The first quill member extends through a sealed opening on a wall of the equipment and has a first inlet located outside of the equipment, a first outlet located within the equipment in the path of the advancing water stream, and a first passage extending between the first and second inlets. The second quill member is mounted on the first quill member and has a second inlet located outside of the equipment and a second outlet located within the equipment in the path of the advancing water stream. The second outlet is spaced from the first outlet and a second passage, coaxial with the first, extends between the second inlet and the second outlet. A first chemical substance flowing through the first passage and issuing from the first outlet into the water stream thereby avoids mixing in a concentrated form with a second chemical substance flowing through the second passage and issuing from the second outlet into the water stream. The outlet tip ends for the outlet tubes are beveled into the direction of flow of the advancing water stream and each beveled tip end may have a notch formed at an extremity to increase turbulence. The first and second outlets are preferably located at maximum distances from each other and from the walls of the water containing equipment.

摘要: An apparatus for mixing gaseous fuel and air for combustion, particularly premixing-type combustion in a gas turbine, has a conduit providing a passage for flow of the air with a reverse bend defined by opposed first and second wall portions that bound respectively the outside and the inside of said reverse bend as seen in a longitudinal section. The reverse bend establishes a flow region of air having a velocity gradient extending transversely across the conduit from a high velocity zone adjacent the first side wall portion at the outside of the reverse bend to a low velocity zone. Injection means for the gaseous fuel injects the fuel from the first side wall portion into the high velocity zone with a velocity component transverse to the air flow and in a direction towards the low velocity zone. Rapid and uniform mixing is obtained.

摘要: Disclosed is a process for the alkylation of an olefin with an isoparaffin using sulphuric acid as a catalyst. In this process, a finely-dispersed emulsion of isoparaffin and sulphuric acid is prepared first, in a separate emulsion preparation zone. This preparation is carried out by injecting the isoparaffin into the acid through a set of nozzles, thereby allowing the isoparaffin to "scavenge" at high speed through the acid and thus to form an extremely homogeneous emulsion. This makes it possible to achieve proper mixing without need of impellers or other similar mixing devices that usually call for substantial maintenance and operating costs. Then, the emulsion that was so prepared and which forms an already "finished" phase per se, is fed into a reaction zone which is separate form the emulsion preparation zone and in which the olefin is injected preferably at a plurality of points and in directions perpendicular to the emulsion flow. Advantageously, such an injection can be controlled so that the volume ratio of sulphuric acid to hydrocarbons present within the reaction zone is as low as from 0.3 to 0.5:1. This process allows reduction in the rate of expenditure of the raw materials, especially sulphuric acid, through the way and ratios at which the materials are mixed, and through analysis of the alkylation reaction process. An optimized, small-size, high-capacity and ecologically-clean apparatus for carrying out this process is also disclosed.

摘要: An improved device for acting upon fluids by means of a pressure jump is disclosed. The device consists of a nozzle which receives an active fluid. A passive fluid is provided to the nozzle such that it mixes with active fluid to form a two-phase mixture flowing with subsonic velocity. The passive fluid when mixed with the active fluid partially evaporates thereby increasing the stagnation pressure of the mixture and decreasing its stagnation temperature. An expansion chamber is joined with the nozzle where the two-phase mixture is accelerated. An outlet channel with constant cross-sectional area is connected to the expansion chamber. In the outlet channel, the mixture is accelerated to its supersonic velocity so as to create a pressure jump. The nozzle of the device comprises at least one working section and at least one control section. In the working section, the passive fluid is provided into the flow of the active fluid to create a two-phase mixture. In the control section, which is joined with the expansion chamber, additional mass is provided to the flow of the two-phase mixture so as to adjust the ratio of gas and liquid phases in the mixture for achieving a pressure jump of the desired intensity in the outlet channel.
