摘要: The present invention generally relates to microparticles and, in particular, to systems and methods for encapsulation within microparticles. In one aspect, the present invention is generally directed to microparticles containing entities therein, where the entities contain an agent that can be released from the microparticles, e.g., via diffusion. In some cases, the agent may be released from the microparticles without disruption of the microparticles. The entities may be, for instance, polymeric particles, hydrogel particles, droplets of fluid, etc. The entities may be contained within a fluid that is, in turn, encapsulated within the microparticle. The agent may be released from the entity into the fluid, and then from the fluid through the microparticle. In such fashion, the release of agent from the microparticle may be controlled, e.g., over relatively long time scales. Other embodiments of the present invention are generally directed to methods of making such microparticles, methods of using such microparticles, microfluidic devices for making such microparticles, and the like.

摘要: Multiple emulsions with an “onion” topology are useful vehicles for drug delivery, biochemical assays, and templating materials. They can be assembled by ternary liquid phase separation using microfluidics, but the control over their design is limited because the mechanism of their creation is unknown. Here it is shown that phase separation occurs via self-similar cycles of mass transfer, spinodal decomposition or nucleation, and coalescence into multiple layers. Mapping out the phase diagram demonstrates a linear relation between concentric layer diameters, whose slope depends on the initial ternary composition and the molecular weight of the surfactant. These general rules quantitatively predict the number of droplet layers (multiplicity). Further, self-assembly routes for polymer capsules and liposomes are provided with techniques to assemble lipid-stabilized droplets with ordered internal structures.

摘要: A mixing device for an exhaust system of a vehicle includes an inlet pipe, through which exhaust gas can enter a mixing chamber of the mixing device, and an outlet pipe for the exhaust gas to leave the mixing chamber. The inlet pipe and the outlet pipe form an angle. The mixing chamber includes an opening for an outlet of a dosage device, by means of which a reducing agent for exhaust gas aftertreatment is introducible into the mixing chamber. A baffle is arranged at a wall of the inlet pipe a baffle, which is induces a turbulence in the exhaust gas flow entering the mixing chamber.

摘要: The present invention generally relates to multiple emulsions, and to methods and apparatuses for making multiple emulsions. A multiple emulsion generally describes larger droplets that contain one or more smaller droplets therein. The larger droplets may be suspended in a third fluid in some cases. These can be useful for encapsulating species such as pharmaceutical agents, cells, chemicals, or the like. In some cases, one or more of the droplets can change form, for instance, to become solidified to form a microcapsule, a liposome, a polymerosome, or a colloidosome. Multiple emulsions can be formed in one step in certain embodiments, with generally precise repeatability, and can be tailored to include one, two, three, or more inner droplets within a single outer droplet (which droplets may all be nested in some cases).

摘要: The present invention is directed to a synthetic patch application method and device in which synthetic patching material is kept cool while it is mixed in a static mixing tube, prior to application to plywood panels. The synthetic patching material is kept cool by means of a removable cooling jacket that is installed to remove the exothermic heat of reaction generated during the mixing process. The cooling jacket is removable and reusable, and may be easily dismounted and remounted when replacement, adjustment, or repair of the static mixing tube is necessary. The present invention thus provides an improved method of repairing plywood panels using thermosetting resin-based synthetic patching materials in which waste is minimized and time between replacement of static mixing tubes is significantly extended.

摘要: Device for improving the purifying liquid evaporation in an axially symmetric dosing module for an SCR device. The dosing module is able to dose a urea-based reducing agent into a gas exhaust stream generated by a combustion engine. The dosing module comprises a housing developing symmetrically along a development axis; a nozzle for dosing the urea-based reducing agent, arranged along said development axis; and an inlet opening for conveying the gas exhaust stream into the dosing housing, arranged annularly with respect to the nozzle. The device further includes a splitting wall, arranged within the inlet opening for defining at least two separate annular gas stream paths, one annular and coaxial with respect to another, one of them shaped for inducing a different axial speed into a respective gas stream with respect to another.

摘要: A commingling device for combining fluid flows includes an outer fluid line for a first fluid having an inlet end and an outlet end, and an inner fluid line for a second fluid having an inlet end and an outlet end. The inner fluid line has an outlet nozzle at said outlet end, the nozzle being mounted substantially axially within the outer fluid line and configured to direct said second fluid towards the outlet end of the outer fluid line. As a result, the first and second fluids flowing through the inner and outer fluid lines are combined and flow together towards the outlet end of the outer fluid line.
