    摘要: In a method of producing poly(trimethylene terephthalate) yarn from PTT chip which has been extruded through a spinneret into filaments and coated, the coated filaments are passed between an unheated feed roll and a tension roll to tension them without causing permanent stretching, and then are passed from the tension roll to a heated draw roll to draw the filaments in a single draw step to a draw ratio of 1.25 to 4.0 and to heat them to a temperature between their glass transition temperature and their crystallization temperature.

    摘要: An apparatus for producing multifilaments having high fiber strength is disclosed. A spinneret melt spins a polyolefin at a first temperature into filaments. A cooling duct cools the filaments via convection at a second temperature. A chill roll, disposed downstream from the cooling duct, has a third temperature, and forcibly conductively cools the filaments. Finally, heated drawing rolls, disposed downstream from said chill roll, continuously draw the filaments at a high draw ratio.

    摘要: A fiber drawing process and apparatus in which the fibers are drawn in small increments by passing the fibers in multiple wraps over on rotatably mounted spaced apart spindles having discrete circumferential microterraced surfaces which support the fiber. The terraced surfaces are parallel to the axis of rotation of the spindles and each microterraced surface having a continually increasing radius. The number of microterraces is equal to or less than the number of wraps of the fiber about the spindle. Cylindrical rolls in tandem with the microterraced spindles permit fine adjustments of the draw ratios.

    摘要: Thermoplastic monofilament sutures having improved flexibility and handling characteristics are obtained by a melt spinning process which includes the step of drawing the filaments in a heated zone maintained at a temperature above the melting temperature of the filament. The resulting monofilament sutures have a higher elongation and lower modulus than comparable monofilament sutures obtained without the heated drawing step, and are characterized by a crystalline structure which is more highly ordered in the core of the monofilament suture than in a surrounding annular area.

    摘要: The uniformity of bulked continuous filament yarns is improved by stabilizing the yarn path on draw pins and on heated draw rolls in a coupled spin-draw-bulk process wherein just before the yarn contacts a draw pin it is passed between two parallel guide pins in tandem in a zig-zag path which cause the plane of the yarn ribbon to rotate about the yarn axis by an angle of from 50.degree. to 90.degree. and back before contacting a draw pin. More uniform spreading of the yarn filaments on the heated rolls saves energy by permitting the use of lower roll temperatures.

    摘要: A process for producing a highly oriented, partially drawn, untwisted, compact poly(.epsilon.-caproamide) yarn at windup speeds of from 3500 to 6000 meters per minute is disclosed. The process features the steps of overfeeding the yarn, by from 0.5 to 2.0 percent, to entangling means, and overfeeding the shrinking yarn to the winder. The yarn is "drawn" in the quench stack. Draw-twisting is omitted by this process; yarn so produced performs as well as conventional, draw-twisted yarn in end use applications, e.g., knitting and weaving.
