[Class 120(iii)] A cord suitable for use as a tyre-cord comprises a plurality of strands twisted together in one direction, each strand comprising a plurality of ends twisted together in the other direction, at least one strand containing one or more ends of steel wire, which may be brass plated, and each strand containing ends of yarn composed of regenerated cellulose continuous filaments. Preferably the weight of the wire is from 10 to 40 per cent of the whole cord. A cord, according to an example given, is composed of three strands twisted together in one direction, each strand being composed of two ends of steel wire 0.004 inches in diameter twisted together in the opposite direction with two ends of continuous-filament regenerated cellulose yarn of about 270 denier.

    Abstract: A tyre for vehicle wheels comprises a carcass structure including at least one carcass ply having a plurality of hybrid reinforcing cords (10). Each hybrid reinforcing cord (10) comprises at least two strands (20a, 20b) twisted together with a predetermined twisting pitch (P). Each of said at least two strands (20a, 20b) comprises at least one monofilament textile wire made of polyester fibres and at least one multifilament textile yarn (22a, 22b) comprising a plurality of textile filaments (23a, 23b) made of aramid and/or polyester and/or rayon fibres. In any cross section of the hybrid reinforcing cord (10), said at least one monofilament textile wire is at least partially embedded in the filaments (23a, 23b) of said at least one multifilament textile yarn (22a, 22b).

    Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to flame resistant fabrics that provide protection against molten metal splash but that have improved comfort at a lower cost by predominantly locating the protective molten metal shedding fibers on the front face of the fabric. Concentrating the protective fibers predominantly on the front face of the fabric still provides good protection against molten metal adherence and allows for more comfortable (and less expensive) fibers to be used on the back face of the fabric positioned next to the wearer. In this way, overall protection of the fabric is maintained while improving comfort. Embodiments of such fabrics may also achieve NFPA 70E PPE Category 2 protection (≥8 cal/cm2 arc rating whether ATPV or EBT).
