摘要: Disclosed is a fiber optic connector that includes a rigid housing having a first cavity configured to receive a first optical fiber network element, such as a transmitting or receiving optical unit or subassembly, and a second cavity configured to receive a second optical fiber network element, such as an optical fiber connector. The connector further includes a retaining member for operative engagement with the housing and with one of the optical fiber network elements, at a location intermediate to the ends of the unit to retain the unit at a selected location within the housing. The housing axially aligns the first and second optical fiber network elements such that they are in optical alignment. Further, the retaining member includes a number of extending members for convenient mounting to, for example, a circuit board.

摘要: A fiber optic connector assembly includes an outer connector housing defining an optic axis. An inner optical fiber plug is mounted in the housing for limited axial movement therein and for rotational movement angularly of said axis. An indexing or locking mechanism is provided between the plug and the housing to hold the plug in selected rotational positions of adjustment angular of the optic axis. Axial movement of the plug within and relative to the housing is effective to disengage the lock or indexing mechanism and allow rotation of the plug. A retainer is selectively movable into engagement with the plug to prevent axial movement of the plug and, thereby, prevent disengagement of the lock or indexing mechanism, thereby fixing the rotational position of the adjustment of the plug.

摘要: A tunable fiber optic connector is disclosed. The connector includes a ferrule assembly comprising a ferrule and a ferrule holder for receiving the ferrule therein. The ferrule holder has a plurality of splines on the periphery of a front surface thereof, and a spring bears against a rear surface of the ferrule holder and applies a forward biasing force to the ferrule assembly. The connector also includes a housing having a central bore extending therethrough in which the ferrule assembly is located. The housing has at least one tuning arm within the bore for engaging the ferrule assembly, and the tuning arm allows the ferrule assembly to be tuned inside the housing without disengaging the ferrule assembly from the tuning arm. A method of assembling a tunable fiber optic connector is also disclosed.

摘要: A tunable fiber optic connector and method for assembling a tunable connector. The connector may include a ferrule mounted to an optical fiber and a hub. A front housing of the connector includes a bore for receiving a rear housing, an anti-rotation seat configured to engage the hub, and a cavity coupled to the anti-rotation seat. A length of an elongated cylindrical rear portion of the hub is sized so that the anti-rotation portion of the hub can be pushed completely into the cavity and rotated to tune the connector when the rear housing is partially inserted into the front housing, and an end of the elongated cylindrical rear portion of the hub abuts the rear housing so that the anti-rotation portion of the hub cannot be completely pushed back into the cavity and rotated when the rear housing is completely engaged with the front housing.

摘要: An optical connector plug includes a holder having a ferrule at one end thereof, a stop ring for supporting the ferrule in a predetermined direction, a plug frame for rotatably supporting and incorporating the stop ring in an axial direction, and a coil spring interposed between the holder and the stop ring, for energizing the ferrule to the front in the plug frame, wherein the holder and the stop ring have engaging portions with which they are mutually engaged, and an optical axis of the ferrule is adjusted in a single step by rotating the stop ring and fixing the plug frame or by rotating the plug frame and fixing the stop ring, and an adjusted position is fixed by pressure generated by pressing the spring to the holder and by using an adhering agent which is filled between the plug frame and the stop ring.

摘要: An optical connector (20) includes a ferrule assembly (22) which is adapted to be received in a plug frame (70). The ferrule assembly is held in the plug frame by a cable retention assembly (40) which is adapted to be secured to said plug frame. A leading end of the plug frame is symmetrical in an end cross-section which is normal to a longitudinal axis of the connector. After the ferrule assembly has been assembled to the plug frame, the direction of any eccentricity of the plug passageway or of an optical fiber terminated by the ferrule assembly is determined. Then the plug frame is assembled to a housing of a grip (90) such that the direction of eccentricity is aligned with a key (92) of the grip. The plug frame is capable of being assembled to the grip notwithstanding the rotational orientation of the plug frame with respect to the grip. An optical connection between optical fibers terminated by two connectors is made by inserting the grip of each of the two connectors into a coupling housing (100) so that the keys are aligned. Advantageously, portions of the connector may be factory assembled which facilitates field use of the connector to terminate optical fiber.

摘要: A rotatable capsule for a fiber optic rotary joint and a method of using thereof is disclosed. The rotatable capsule may have a housing with one or more sections, where inside the housing there may exist multiple chambers. The rotatable capsule may be designed to be submerged under water and withstand high pressure loads during operation. A first chamber may be designed to support one or more shaft seals between a rotatable shaft and the housing of the capsule by equalizing the pressure of the outside environment with the usage of a high viscosity liquid fluid that is non-conductive and non-compressible. At least one other chamber may be designed to hold different portions of the fiber optic rotary joint and be sealed from the first chamber to provide a second level of sealing.

摘要: An optical connector includes a first sub-assembly that is factory-installed to a first end of an optical fiber and a second sub-assembly that is field-installed to the first end of the optical fiber. The optical fiber and first sub-assembly can be routed through a structure (e.g., a building) prior to installation of the second sub-assembly. The second sub-assembly interlocks with the first sub-assembly to inhibit relative axial movement therebetween. Example first sub-assemblies include a ferrule, a hub, and a strain-relief sleeve that mount to an optical fiber. Example second sub-assemblies include a mounting block; and an outer connector housing forming a plug portion.
