An image processing device comprises an image data input means 2, an image data storage means 12 for storing the image data being input, an image data processing means 6 having multiple processing modes for outputting the stored image data, and a image data erasing means for erasing the image data stored in the storage means 12. The device further comprises erase count control means 8, 14 for controlling the number of times for erasing image data capable of having the number of times of erase set arbitrarily according to the security level required for each mode, and capable of having the set number of times of erase changed in mid-flow. Confidentiality is protected by performing erase operations repeatedly to the region storing the unnecessary image data according to the security level.

A printing system comprising a printing device and a server configured to perform data communication with the printing device. The printing device comprises a printing unit configured to print an image on a printing sheet, an attachment unit to which a removable medium is removably attached, a first communication interface configured to communicate with the server, and a first controller configured to acquire at least part of data in the removable medium attached to the attachment unit, control the first communication interface to transmit the acquired data to the server, delete the data in the removable medium corresponding to the acquired data. In order to maintain consistency between stored data and an image formed on a recording medium, an MFP includes an HDD to store data, a data designation portion to designate target data to be an output target from the data stored in the HDD, a prohibition portion to prohibit modification or deletion of the target data, and an image forming portion to generate a composite image by combining the target data with positional information indicating a position in the HDD where the target data is stored and to form the composite image on a sheet of paper.

A database of user preferences for a high quality picture is maintained. Preferences may be generated over time by tracking attributes of pictures that the user has deleted or failed to select for storage. When the camera is in preview mode, the camera may automatically capture image data for one or more pictures as a background operation. When the user commands the taking of a picture, the camera will capture image data for a user photo. A comparison may be made to determine which one of the automatically taken picture or the user photo has a higher correlation to user preferences for a quality photo. If the user photo has higher correlation, it may be retained in the customary manner for digital pictures. If the automatically taken photo has higher correlation, the user may be given the option to select the user photo or the automatically taken photo for retention.

There is disclosed a system and method for uploading a document from the device to a server. In an embodiment, the method comprises: (i) generating and storing a scaled down version of the document on the device; (ii) determining the type of connection the device has established with the server; (iii) if the device has established a specified type of high bandwidth connection to the server, then: uploading the document from the device to the server; deleting the document from the device; and creating an upload record of data associated with the scaled down version of the document on the device to subsequently access the uploaded document; (iv) else, if the device has not established a specified type of high bandwidth connection to the server, then uploading the scaled down version of the document.

A data recording apparatus includes: a data recording device that records acquired data in a recording medium; a target data specifying device that specifies target data to which data processing is to be performed out of data recorded in the recording medium based on an instruction by a user; a recordable data number calculation device that calculates a number of the acquired data that will be able to be recorded in the recording medium by performing the data processing to the target data based on a remaining capacity of the recording medium and a content of processing of the data processing; a display control device that displays on a display device a result of the calculation by the recordable data number calculation device before the data processing is performed.
