    摘要: A method and apparatus for simulcasting within a communication system is provided herein. During operation, each base site will be equipped with a plurality of radios capable of transmitting on various frequencies. Base sites within the communication system will be capable of communicating on a predetermined number of channels, which may differ among base sites. A number of channels will be shared by the base sites. When a simulcast is desired, the participants are located, and a common channel is determined for communication. Thus, call participant location information is used to determine the best channel to use to meet the group's coverage needs.

    摘要: A method and system for direct mode operation (DMO) of a talkgroup enables device to device (D2D) DMO operation leveraged from a Land Mobile Radio (LMR) system. The method includes scanning at a radio receiver a defined radio frequency spectrum; receiving at the radio receiver in the defined radio frequency spectrum a wake-up signal; identifying a talkgroup identifier in the wake-up signal, wherein the talkgroup identifier corresponds to a talkgroup being monitored by the radio receiver; in response to identifying the talkgroup identifier, decoding code sequences included in the wake-up signal; identifying in at least one of the code sequences both a center frequency and a transmission bandwidth of the DMO transmission; and tuning the radio receiver to receive the DMO transmission at the center frequency and transmission bandwidth.

    摘要: A multivoice radio system allows users to speak and listen, at the same time, to others using multivoice radios without using a base station. Several embodiments of the present invention are directed toward combining a multivoice radio with push-to-talk (PTT), long-range radio. Other embodiments combine two or more multivoice systems and/or use an extender to increase a distance that multivoice radios can communicate with each other. Combining multivoice systems, in some embodiments, creates a voice and/or data mesh network. Switch-to-talk (STT) functionality can be added to systems to increase a number of users and promote radio discipline. Additionally, a combined in-ear microphone and speaker is disclosed. Further embodiments are directed to combining duplex radios, such as mobile phones, to multivoice systems, and/or PTT systems.

    摘要: Dynamic group formation in a wireless radio communication system including a plurality of subscriber units is implemented using variable distance parameters. First, a request for a new group call relative to a defined location is received at a controller from a requesting device. A current location of each of a plurality of potential responding second subscriber units is determined. A maximum response distance associated with each of the second subscriber units is determined as a function of a stored mode of transport associated with each of the second subscriber units. A group is formed including second subscriber units having current locations that fall within the maximum response distance relative to the defined location associated with that second subscriber unit. Audio or data transmitted by the requesting device is then caused to be provided to the second subscriber units in the formed group.

A determination may be made that at least one of the talkgroups is active. In response, the communication device may be set to a first active talkgroup.
