    摘要: A process for precipitating iron as a jarosite from a sulphate solution containing ferric iron, free acid and valuable non-ferrous metals, characterized by cooling the solution; partially neutralizing the free acidity, and then clarifying the solution; heating the clarified solution to a temperature not exceeding the boiling point at atmospheric pressure, in the presence of at least one ion selected from the group consisting of sodium, potassium and ammonium ions, and in the presence of recycled jarosite, and without the addition of any further neutralizing agent, so that substantially all of the ferric iron is precipitated as a jarosite; and separating precipitated jarosite from the solution; thereby producing a jarosite contaminated with only minor amounts of non-ferrous metals, and a solution which may be further processed by established procedures for the recovery of dissolved valuable non-ferrous metals therefrom. The invention also contemplates a dilution step, and recycle of jarosite.

    摘要: Methods of making finely divided product from fly ash compositions, including both dry fly ash compositions and aqueous suspensions of fly ash in combination with alkaline earth metal compounds. The fly ash composition, preferably including 10 to 50% combined alkaline earth metal oxides, is heated to molten condition while collecting gases evolving therefrom, including sulfur oxide gases. The top portion of the melt is then poured in a manner causing a molten stream thereof to be divided into a multiplicity of fractions and cooled to solid form while encompassed by a fluid cooling medium in a manner to produce either a shot or a granulated aggregate product. The bottom portion of the melt is nearly pure metallic iron which is recovered, as such, for other uses. Preferably, the molten stream impinges on a rotating member in a manner to produce shot, or is quenched in a water bath to form a granulated type product.

    摘要: A method for obtaining aluminum oxide where the smelted metallurgical slag is subjected to a slow cooling and then self-decomposition by simultaneous action of ultrasound or vibration of high frequency, carried out, which accelerates the formation, in a glassy (vitrous) phase, of a polymorphous, crystalline, high-temperature modification of calcium aluminate, 12 CaO.multidot.7Al.sub.2 O.sub.3, which can be easily lixiviated with aqueous solutions of soda. From lye liquors after extraction, the aluminum oxide is then recovered and the residue, after lixiviation, is burnt to standard portland clinker keeping possibly the lowest proportion of the quantity of clinker produced in relation to the quantity of obtained aluminum oxide.

    摘要: In a method of producing successive heats of refined steel wherein successive charges of molten, impure iron are refined by oxygen in the presence of at least one flux to form molten, refined steel and liquid slag, followed by the separation of said molten, refined steel and liquid slag, the improvement wherein a liquid slag from one of said refining operations is brought into contact with and caused to react with a batch of molten, impure iron which comprises a charge for a subsequent refining operation other than the immediate next successive refining operation to that from which the said liquid slag was obtained, such that at least some of the free and combined iron contained in said slag is substantially reduced and dissolved into said molten, impure iron, and such that the molten, impure iron is at least partially refined.

    摘要: An improved method is described for processing pig iron containing vanadium to obtain a slag containing at least 8 percent vanadium and having a vanadium to iron ratio of at least 0.5 which is directly useful as a refining agent for producing ferrovanadium alloys, the improvement residing in simultaneously introducing a highly oxidizing gas and a protective fluid below the upper surface of a bath of the molten pig iron maintained at a temperature in the range of 2600.degree. to 2900.degree. F. to oxidize vanadium preferentially, as compared to iron, and thereby produce a vanadium-containing slag in which the ratio of vanadium to iron is increased.
