Abstract:
Apparatus and methods for measuring mode spectra for ion-exchanged glass substrates having a steep index region are disclosed. An interfacing fluid is provided between the coupling prism and the glass substrate. The interfacing fluid thickness is selected so that the variation in modal birefringence with fluid thickness is reduced to an acceptable level. The coupling prism can include a prism coating on the coupling surface so that the substrate-prism interface includes the prism coating. The coupling prism can also include stand-off members that serve to define the thickness of the interfacing fluid.
Abstract:
Provided is a polarization measuring device including a stage on which a measurement target is provided, a light source assembly configured to emit incident light, a first polarimeter configured to polarize the incident light, a second polarimeter configured to polarize reflected light reflected from the measurement target that is irradiated by the incident light, a filter assembly configured to remove noise from the reflected light, and a detector configured to receive the reflected light and measure an intensity of the reflected light and a phase of the reflected light.
Abstract:
Metasurface polarization convertors permit conversion of an input linear polarization to right- or left-handed circular polarization based on the orientation of the input linear polarization, over a broad bandwidth and with high efficiency. The reflected circular polarizations can be used to evaluate samples for circular dichroism. A THz time-domain detection provides a time domain terahertz signal that is Fourier transformed to produce a THz circular dichroism spectrum.
Abstract:
The hybrid measurement system includes an evanescent prism coupling spectroscopy (EPCS) sub-system and a light-scattering polarimetry (LSP) sub-system. The EPCS sub-system includes an EPCS light source optically coupled to an EPCS detector system through an EPCS coupling prism. The LSP sub-system includes an LSP light source optically coupled to an optical compensator, which in turn is optically coupled to a LSP detector system via a LSP coupling prism. A support structure supports the EPCS and LSP coupling prisms to define a coupling prism assembly, which supports the two prisms at a measurement location. Stress measurements made using the EPCS and LSP sub-systems are combined to fully characterize the stress properties of a transparent chemically strengthened substrate. Methods of processing the EPCS and LSP measurements to improve measurement accuracy are also disclosed.
Abstract:
The polarization imaging unit generates a polarized image including pixels for each of a plurality of polarization components. The demosaicing unit calculates a pixel signal for each polarization component by using the pixel signal of the target pixel of the polarized image and the pixel signal of the pixel for each of the identical polarization components located near the target pixel. In one example, a low frequency component is calculated for each polarization component using the pixel signal of the pixel located near the target pixel for each of the identical polarization components. In addition, component information indicating relationship between the low frequency component of the polarization component of the polarized image and the pixel signal of the target pixel is acquired. Furthermore, the pixel signal for each polarization component in the target pixel is calculated based on the low frequency component and the component information for each polarization component.

Abstract:
A polarimeter for measuring chirality of a material comprising an optical ring cavity comprising a plurality of reflective elements configured to promote bi-directional propagation of a laser beam within the cavity, a laser-emitting device configured to introduce a first input laser beam and a second input laser beam into the ring cavity, and a Faraday rotator and a phase compensator configured to suppress a birefringent background as the first and second laser beams pass through the ring cavity, wherein the plurality of mirrors, Faraday rotator, and phase compensator are configured such that light from the first and second laser beams passes through a chiral material located within the cavity a sufficient number of times for a measurement of optical rotary dispersion (ORD) and circular dichroism (CD) of light transmitted through the chiral material to be obtained. Particular implementations include monolithic ring cavities or microresonators or use of intra-cavity gain media.
