Abstract: A vehicle and method of controlling the same are provided in which the performance of an electric motor is prevented from being degraded by efficiently and more accurately calculating the temperature of a permanent magnet within the electric motor to adjust the amount of power supplied to the electric motor. The vehicle includes an electric motor having a stator, a rotor, and a permanent magnet and a sensor that measures the temperature of the electric motor. An inverter drives the electric motor and a controller generates a predetermined heat quantity by supplying power to the electric motor to calculate the temperature of the permanent magnet based on the temperature of the electric motor at a predetermined point measured using the sensor. When the temperature of the permanent magnet exceeds a predetermined temperature, the controller reduces the supply of the power.

Abstract: An electric power steering apparatus of a vector control system that drives and controls a motor by an inverter and applies an assist torque to a steering system of a vehicle, including the first compensation function to perform a dead time (DT) compensation based on respective phase motor terminal voltages and respective phase duty command values, the second compensation function to perform a DT compensation based on steering assist command values, the third compensation function to perform the DT compensation based on dq-axis current command values, and a temperature detecting section to detect temperature of ECU, wherein the correction of the DT compensation is performed based on the temperature, wherein switches of the compensation functions are performed by using a conditional branch due to software and a gradual-changing switch, wherein the dq-axis DT compensation values after the conditional branch and the gradual-changing switch are performed are calculated, and wherein the dq-axis voltage command values are compensated by the dq-axis DT compensation values.

Abstract: A system comprises a plurality of power converters, a plurality of energy storage systems, a first common node, a second common node, and zero-reference voltage node. Each power converter is coupled between one energy storage system and the first and second common nodes. The system operates to regulate power between the power converters and the first and second common nodes. Each power converter is a bi-directional power converter and each energy storage system is a battery pack. In one example, the first common node is regulated to a voltage VSPAN, and the second common node is regulated to a voltage VSCN which is the mean of all voltages output by the battery packs. In another example, the first common node is regulated to a voltage −VSPAN, and the second common node is regulated to a voltage +VSPAN. No power converter processes more than voltage VSPAN yielding high-efficiency power conversion.

Abstract: The present disclosure pertains to systems and methods configured to monitor and protect an electric motor during startup using a motor model. The motor model parameters may be calculated using measurements taken during a calibration start of the electric motor. The measurements may include slip, stator current, stator voltage, frequency, and/or other electrical or physical parameters. In some embodiments, the motor model parameters may be calculated by minimizing the difference between a measured slip and a calculated slip. The motor model may comprise a variety of parameters used to determine operation parameters of the motor during the startup. In one specific embodiment, the motor model may determine a thermal capacity used (TCU). The TCU may be compared to a threshold value to determine whether protective action is necessary.

A first timer is connected to a gate electrode of the third switch. A first comparator has a first input that is connected to a gate electrode of the first switch, a second input at which a reference voltage can be received, and an output that is connected to the first timer.
