Abstract:
Water treatment apparatus for use in aquariums and the like comprising the serial arrangement of spaced apart paralled disposed plates positioned in the water being treated. Consecutive plates are oppositely polarized at a relatively low voltage. The polarization of the plates is periodically or randomly reversed. The apparatus acts to kill bacteria, aerate and increase the circulation of the water thereby improving the general environment of the aquarium.
Abstract:
A cylindrical anode and a cylindrical cathode longitudinally spaced from one another with an insulating cylinder between them form one wall of an annular flow passage. The other wall is formed by a coaxial conducting cylinder which is known as a bipolar electrode because in operation it is anodic relative to the cathode and cathodic relative to the anode. In one embodiment the two electrodes and insulating spacer form the housing within which is mounted the bi-polar electrode. In another embodiment the bi-polar electrode forms the housing within which is mounted the cylindrical anode, insulating spacer and cathode. The electrolyte, such as brine, flows through the annular flow passage while current flows from anode through electrolyte to the bi-polar electrode along the bi-polar electrode back through the electrolyte to the cathode thereby, when the electrolyte is brine, generating sodium hypochlorite.
Abstract:
A PROCESS FOR TREATING INDUSTRIAL WASTES CONTAINING SULFURIC ACID AND METAL CONSTITUENTS COMPRISING SUBJECTING THE WASTES TO A CELL EQUIPPED WITH A PLURALITY OF ALTERNATELY POSITIONED POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE LEAD-ANTIMONY ALLOY ELECTRODES AND CHARGING THE ELECTRODES. THE LIQUID PORTION OF THE WASTE IS DISSIPATED AND A RESIDUE INCLUDING THE METALLIC CONSTITUENTS FORMS. A SECONDARY PROCESS IS ALSO DISCLOSED COMPRISING THE STEPS OF PLACING ADDITIONAL PICKLE LIQUOR IN A SECONDARY PROCESSING TANK, CONTACTING THE PICKLE LIQUOR IN THE SECONDARY PROCESSING TANK WITH THE EXTERIOR WALL OF THE CELL WALL TO THE PICKLE LIQUOR IN THE SECOND THROUGH THE CELL WALL TO THE PICKLE LIQUOR IN THE SECONDARY TANK WHEREIN THE LIQUID PORTION OF THE LIQUOR IN THE SECCONDARY PROCESSING TANK IS DISSIPATED AND A RESIDUE INCLUDING THE METALLIC CONSTITUENTS FORMS WITHIN THE SECONDARY TANK. THE METALLIC CONSTITUENTS MAY BE RECLAIMED BY A DRYING STEP OR BY AN AGNITION STEP.
