Abstract: The present invention provides a device for carbon dioxide recovery from alkaline water using a module having at least three compartments where each compartment is separated by an electrode pair (anode and cathode) with electrochemical reactions occurring at the electrodes. The electrodes can be in a unipolar or bipolar configuration. Multiple electrochemical modules can be electrically connected in series, in parallel, or in a combination of both series and parallel. Also disclosed it the related process for recovering carbon dioxide from alkaline water.

Abstract: Provided is a wastewater treatment process using an electrochemical electrode device. The electrochemical electrode device comprises at least one electrochemical electrode (30) comprising an appropriate electrode plate. The process comprises the following steps: causing water containing an undesired solute to pass through at least one electrochemical electrode (30); applying a direct current to the electrochemical electrode (30) to destroy the undesired solute in the water so as to output water having a lower concentration of the undesired solute. The direct current is adjusted via a specific power control procedure. The control procedure at least comprises the following cycle of an applied current sequence: a period of operation with a preset constant current flowing through an electrochemical electrode (30); applying a reverse constant current to reverse positive and negative electrodes while maintaining an absolute magnitude of the constant current; and a period of operation with the constant current flowing through the electrochemical electrode (30).

The voltage-current control circuit switches between the constant current control mode and the constant voltage control mode, according to a concentration of electrolyte solution within the electrolytic cell.

Abstract: The present invention provides a permanent and cost-effective composite electrode for electrolytically producing alkaline water, comprising an electrode core made of steel, a filler densely packed around the electrode core, said filler capable of creating a mildly aqueous and alkaline environment to motivate formation of a layer of magnetite over a surface of the electrode core, and a housing enclosing the filler, said housing having a pore size selected such that very low permeation of gas and liquid takes place. The invention also provides an apparatus comprising the composite electrode, and the use of the alkaline water produced by the apparatus of the invention. According to the invention, no additional undesired side products, such as toxic chlorine gas and other pollutants, are produced and discharged to the environment.
