Abstract:
The proposed method and apparatus reduces an amount of power required for nodes to both transmit and receive messages. In particular, broadcast packets are sent in an awake period (ATIM window) if the length of these messages is small. Because these packets do not need acknowledgment or they do not expect immediate reply, they may be broadcast in the ATIM window. Since all nodes are awake during the ATIM window, nodes may receive messages during this period of time which they ordinarily would need to stay awake to receive in the sleep period (post ATIM window).
Abstract:
The present invention provides a system and method for multihop packet forwarding within a multihop wireless communication network. The method uses a data frame format including at least the four address fields to forward packets in a multihop wireless network. The method includes generating a route request packet at a routable device in response to receiving a packet destined for an unknown destination. The route request packet includes an originating device field including an address of an originating device, wherein the originating device generated the packet originally; and a source field, wherein the source field includes an address of the first routable device which generated the route request packet.
Abstract:
Systems and methods of efficiently providing network access for a portable electronic device while moderating power consumption are described. The electronic device may have a cellular radio and a network radio for communicating with an alternative network. In a default state, the electronic device may carry out communications using the cellular radio, and the network radio may be in an off state. Periodically, the electronic device may determine if the electronic device has moved. If so, a location of the electronic device may be determined and a check may be carried out to determine if the electronic device is in range of an available alternative network. If the electronic device is in range of an available alternative network, the network radio may be turned on and an attempt to connect to the alternative network may be made.
Abstract:
A method of operation of a node for obtaining channel information in a wireless communication network is disclosed. The method includes receiving periodically, information related to channel assessment capability of plurality of nodes of the wireless communication network, maintaining a metric characterizing the channel assessment capability for each of the plurality of nodes based on the received channel assessment capability, selecting at least one node from the plurality of nodes by comparing the metric of each of the plurality of nodes, sending a request for channel information to the selected node and receiving channel information from the selected node.
Abstract:
Systems and methods of providing network access information from one or more servers to a wireless device. The wireless device acquires information from the servers about available networks at a current location of the wireless device. The network information is based on a plurality of device parameters, network parameters and regulatory requirements that govern the operation of the wireless device. In addition, the wireless device may assess the acquired information for suitability for communications to be carried out by the wireless device.
Abstract:
A system and method for automatically configuring operating parameters of a wireless radio device. The wireless radio device determines a geographic location of the wireless radio device, and a determination is made as to the regulatory domain in which the wireless radio device is located based on the geographic location of the wireless radio device. The wireless radio device may register with and/or receive configuration information from the server associated with the regulatory domain in which the wireless radio device is located. The wireless radio device configures the operating parameters of the wireless device in accordance with configuration parameters associated with the determined regulatory domain.
Abstract:
A wireless radio device includes a wireless transceiver configured to receive on a first channel set and transmit on a second channel set and a control circuit. The control circuit determines one or more available channels for transmission and selects one or more channels for the second channel set from the channels available for transmission. The control circuit also determines one or more available channels for reception, the one or more available channels for reception including the one or more available channels for transmission and one or more channels that are not available for transmission due to operation of an incumbent radio device in a location of the radio device; and selects one or more channels for the first channel set from the channels available for reception.
Abstract:
A system and method for improving a current wireless communication route, between a source node and a destination node in an on-demand wireless communication network, enables the current communication route to be improved even when the current route has not failed. The method includes analyzing at a local node a packet transmission from the source node, the packet transmission comprising a current route metric (step 705). The local node then determines that it can provide an improved wireless communication route, between the source node and the destination node, having a better route metric than the current route metric (step 710). A route improvement message is then transmitted from the local node to the source node (step 740).
Abstract:
In systems and methods for analyzing spectrum, a radio system may sample spectrum and transmit the sample to a remote spectrum analysis system. The remote spectrum analysis system analyzes the sample to determine if an incumbent radio system or radar is present and returns analysis results to the radio system. The remote spectrum analysis system may use information acquired from other sources, such as a knowledge base of devices that operate in the vicinity of the radio system to assist in analyzing the spectrum sample.
Abstract:
A node in a wireless communication system detects a requirement to discontinue communications on a primary channel. In response, the node sends a message to a plurality of nodes, which includes a reason for discontinuation of communications on the primary channel and availability of immediate operation of a secondary channel. The secondary channel is a channel the node was currently using for its communication. Another node receives a message including a requirement to discontinue communications on a primary channel and also the availability of immediate operation on a secondary channel. The receiving node detects the feasibility of moving the operation of its associated network to the secondary channel. When feasible, the node sends a message to other nodes to make the secondary channel its primary channel.
