Abstract:
A bit for a rotary drill, the bit including a cylindrical body having at least two flutes provided therein, the cylindrical body terminating in a cutting end; and a cylindrical land defined by a peripheral face of the cylindrical body between adjacent flutes, the cylindrical land including a margin that is radially elevated relative to a remainder of the cylindrical land; the margin having a width that varies along the length of the cylindrical land.
Abstract:
A twist drill assembly (10) comprising a shaft (30) and a drill tip (20); the shaft having a single internal shaft conduit (34) for a fluid, extending between orifices (36, 37) formed into the shaft; the drill tip having an internal drill tip conduit (22) for the fluid, extending between orifices formed into the drill tip; the shaft and the drill tip configured such that the drill tip is connectable to an end of the shaft with the internal drill tip conduit in communication with the internal shaft conduit, allowing the fluid to be capable of flowing from the internal shaft conduit into the internal drill tip conduit; the internal shaft conduit having a spiral form aligned with a central longitudinal axis of the shaft, and configured to complement the arrangement of spiral flutes (38) formed on the shaft.
Abstract:
An apparatus for endpoint detection during removal of material from an electronic component includes a mounting plate operable to provide physical and electrical attachment for a device-under-test (DUT), a spindle operable to hold a tip for removing material from the DUT, a signal generator operable to provide an input signal to a first electrode, and a microprocessor connected to use an output signal from a second electrode to terminate the removal of material when an endpoint is reached, the first electrode being one of the tip and the DUT and the second electrode being the opposite one of the tip and the DUT.

Abstract:
A method of manufacturing a bit for a rotary drill, the bit including a drill tip (30), the method including providing a precursor structure (10) comprising substrate body (14) and a super-hard structure (12) joined to an upper surface of the substrate body; cutting a plurality of conformal inserts (20) from the precursor structure (10), each insert (20) comprising a part of the super-hard structure; providing a drill tip (30) configured for receiving the insert (20); and joining the insert to the drill tip (30).
Abstract:
There is provided a method for processing data sets in a processor. The processor has a pipelined data path including an input, an output, and at least one discrete stage. The pipeline is configured to enable one or more data sets, each comprising one or more data items, to enter the pipeline from the input, propagate through the pipeline, and exit the pipeline through the output. Each discrete stage represents an operation to be performed on the data item occupying the discrete stage. The method comprises defining one or more non-overlapping sections of the pipeline corresponding to portions of the pipeline occupied by the data items of at least one data set. In addition, the method comprises providing one or more logic units, each dedicated to control the progress of the data items of the at least one data set through the pipeline as the section advances through the pipeline.
Abstract:
A cargo barrier net for an aircraft includes a net mesh, defined by a plurality of net strands, a securing members coupled to one of the net strands, for securing the cargo barrier net across an internal space of an aircraft; and a tear webbing located between the securing members and the net strand. The tear webbing is configured to tear progressively when a load is applied to it, thereby increasing the effective length of net strand to which it is coupled and redistributing the load to other net strands in the cargo barrier net.
Abstract:
A method for receiving passive data corresponding to an aircraft in a vicinity of an airport, receiving additional information corresponding to the aircraft and predicting a time of arrival at a gate based on the passive data and the additional information. In addition, a system having a data receiving arrangement receiving passive data corresponding to an aircraft in a vicinity of an airport and additional information corresponding to the aircraft and a gate prediction module predicting a time of arrival at a gate based on the passive data and the additional information.
