Abstract:
A novel quantization method for use in image compression techniques provides a 3-6% improvement in compression which is achieved with minimal additional hardware or software and yet which is compatible with proposed standard techniques.
Abstract:
A color image compression system and method provides an improved technique of combining various image processing techniques to obtain high quality color image compression. The present invention provides color image compression, especially high quality original images that require up to 24 bits of data per pixel. The present invention utilizes a delta quantizing technique between an array of pixels to provide an improved color image compression aspect.
Abstract:
A reproduction method and apparatus provides for the secure reproduction of confidential documents that include a machine readable code or indicia that is preferably invisible. The reproductions are also provided with a machine readable code to provide security against the making of reproductions from copies from originals. The method and apparatus of the invention comprises a multicolor development station reproduction apparatus wherein one or more color development stations are employed to reproduce the visual portions of the original document. The invisible encoded portions of the document are electronically "read" from the original and reproduced in the same reproduction apparatus with a developer station having transparent toner particles incorporating an ultraviolet fluorescent ink or composition.
Abstract:
Imaging apparatus is disclosed for exposing a recording medium to produce an image in accordance with information contained in an electrical signal. The apparatus comprises a light source, optical means for imaging light onto the recording medium, and a light-valve array to control the light reaching selected areas of the recording medium. The light valve-array is comprised of a plurality of electrostatically deflectable elements each of which contains a waveguide for transmitting light from the source to a receptor waveguide. Light from the receptor waveguides is imaged onto the recording medium. In order to provide for gray scale in the image, a control means is provided to precisely control the amount of deflection of the elements and thereby control the amount of light transmitted for a given pixel.
Abstract:
A forceps includes an end effector assembly having first and second jaw members, each jaw member including a tissue sealing plate disposed thereon. One or both of the jaw members is movable relative to the other between a spaced-apart position and an approximated position for grasping tissue therebetween. One or both of the jaw members defines a first channel extending therethrough and an opening in the tissue sealing plate thereof that is aligned with the first channel. A stop member having a pre-determined configuration is removably engaged within the first channel. At least a portion of the stop member is configured to extend through the opening of the tissue sealing plate to define a minimum gap distance between the tissue sealing plates of the jaw members when the jaw members are disposed in the approximated position.
Abstract:
An electrosurgical pencil with integrated ligasure tweezers includes—an elongated housing having an open distal end and an actuator operatively associated therewith. First and second jaw members extend distally through the open distal end of the elongated housing and are transitionable between a closed position and an open position upon actuation of an actuator. One or both of the jaw members is configured to treat tissue with monopolar energy and both jaw members are configured to treat tissue with bipolar energy. One or more switches is operably coupled to a controller disposed in the housing and configured to activate the first and second jaw members to treat tissue with monopolar and bipolar energy.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus relating to dynamic selection of execution stage are described. In some embodiments, logic may determine whether to execute an instruction at one of a plurality of stages in a processor. In some embodiments, the plurality of stages are to at least correspond to an address generation stage or an execution stage of the instruction. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.
Abstract:
A surgical instrument is provided. The surgical instrument includes an end effector assembly including first and second jaw members moveable relative to one another between a first, spaced-apart position and a second position proximate tissue, wherein, in the second position, the jaw members cooperate to define a cavity that is configured to receive tissue between the jaw members and a resilient electrically conductive sealing surface operably coupled to at least one jaw member, the resilient electrically conductive sealing surface selectively positionable from a first unflexed position to a second flexed position.
Abstract:
A surgical instrument includes a housing supporting first and second actuators thereon, and an elongated shaft extending distally from the housing. First and second drive members extend through the elongated shaft to operatively couple respective actuators to respective jaw members such that independent manipulation of one of the actuators may induce pivotal movement of an individual jaw member. A locking member is operatively associated with the first and second drive members, and is selectively movable between locked and unlocked positions. When the locking member is in the locked position, the first and second drive members are coupled to one another and move concurrently to drive the jaw members in a bilateral manner. When the locking member is in the unlocked position, the drive members are decoupled from one another and move independently to permit operation of the instrument in a unilateral manner.
Abstract:
A digital camera for capturing images and transmitting captured images over a wireless network includes a sensor for capturing images; a display for displaying at least one captured image; at least one user input for selection of at least one captured image and for selection of a wireless network; a communication interface capable of transmitting the at least one selected image over the selected wireless network; a memory for storing a password needed to utilize the selected wireless network; and a processor for controlling the transmission of the at least one selected image over the selected wireless network utilizing the stored password.
