Abstract:
A hydrogen fueled powerplant including an internal combustion engine that drives a motor-generator, and has a two-stage turbocharger, for an aircraft. A control system controls the operation of the motor-generator to maintain the engine at a speed selected based on controlling the engine equivalence ratio. The control system controls an afterburner, an intercooler and an aftercooler to maximize powerplant efficiency. The afterburner also adds power to the turbochargers during high-altitude restarts. The turbochargers also include motor-generators that extract excess power from the exhaust.

Abstract:
Structured cabling solutions may include techniques and systems usable to route, organize, and otherwise manage wires, optical fibers, and other cables. Structured cabling solutions may include one or more chassis coupled to and movable relative to a frame to provide access to signal connectors on the chassis. Structured cabling solutions may also include labeling schemes that identify patch connectors that correspond to outlets in a structured cabling installation.

Abstract:
Systems and method for mixing the output of a vehicle alternator throughout any operating temperature range include a first temperature sensor for measuring a first temperature and a second temperature sensor for measuring a first temperature. A first temperature module compares the first temperature with a first temperature reference to determine a first temperature error, and to calculate a first duty cycle reference based on the first temperature error. A second temperature module compares the second temperature with a second temperature reference based on the second temperature error, and to calculate a second duty cycle reference based on the second temperature error. A duty cycle selection module selects the lesser of the first duty cycle reference or the second duty cycle reference as a maximum system duty cycle. A duty cycle control module regulates a field current of the vehicle alternator based on the maximum system duty cycle.
Abstract:
Telecommunications switching systems that require real-time computer control can be controlled using remotely located computers coupled to the switching systems via data links. By coupling several switching systems to one or more centrally located control computers, maintenance staffing can be reduced while increasing overall system reliability by providing back up control computers in multiple centralized locations. Centrally located control computers can be backed up with redundant computers at the central control site.
Abstract:
Method, system and computer program product for protecting the integrity of data transferred between an input/output bus of a data processing system and an external network. A method for protecting the integrity of data transferred between an input/output bus and a network includes generating a Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) value on an interface between the input/output bus and an adapter for data being transferred from the input/output bus to the network, and checking a CRC value on the interface between the input/output bus and the adapter for data being transferred from the network to the input/output bus. By adding a CRC generator and a CRC checker on the interface between the input/output bus and the adapter, end-to-end data integrity protection is provided for data transferred between the input/output bus and the network.
Abstract:
A method and system of providing a three dimensional spatial user interface (SUI) to a user of a computing device. The SUI may be manipulated in three dimensions and contains a plurality of portals. A portal may contain a sensory cue that provides a reminder as to the content of the portal. Upon selection of a portal, an application program associated with the cue in the portal is invoked. Portals may also contain further instances of the SUI of the present invention, thus providing hierarchical depth. In the preferred embodiment, the SUI is implemented as a sphere and may be viewed from an external or internal perspective.
Abstract:
A method is employed to attenuate ultrasonic noise propagating in a flow stream of a fluid flow system. In particular, the method attenuates the noise propagating between a noise source and a reference point in the flow stream (wherein the reference point and the noise source are positioned in the flow stream in direct acoustic line of sight relation). The method includes positioning an absorbent element in the flow stream between the noise source and the reference point. Then, the ultrasonic noise is directed past vicinity of the absorbent element such that indirect ultrasonic noise is absorbed by the absorbent element. Preferably, the method also includes deflecting the ultrasonic noise to convert direct noise to indirect noise prior to directing the ultrasonic noise past the vicinity of the absorbent material in the flow stream. Such a method may be employed to attenuate ultrasonic noise by up to about 20 dB to 45 dB.
