Abstract:
An energy control strategy (10) for a hybrid electric vehicle that controls an electric motor during bleed and charge modes of operation. The control strategy (10) establishes (12) a value of the power level at which the battery is to be charged. The power level is used to calculate (14) the torque to be commanded to the electric motor. The strategy (10) of the present invention identifies a transition region (22) for the electric motor's operation that is bounded by upper and lower speed limits. According to the present invention, the desired torque is calculated by applying equations to the regions before, during and after the transition region (22), the equations being a function of the power level and the predetermined limits and boundaries.
Abstract:
A computer implemented transaction processing system is presented for processing transactions between an application and one or more transaction processors. The system utilizes a first communication link between the application and a transaction processor interoperability component. Then, the system determines which of the one or more transaction processors will process transactions for the application and establishes a communication link between the transaction processor interoperability component and the transaction processor that will process transactions for the application. Then, as the application transmits a transaction from the application to the transaction processor interoperability component, the transaction is formatted by the transaction processor interoperability component for comparability with the transaction processor that will process transactions for the application, and finally transmitting the formatted transaction to the transaction processor that will process transactions for the application. Transactions are processed across multiple TP monitors.
Abstract:
In a coupled data processing system having multiple users, either in a single system or in a multi-system environment, a coupling facility storage structure is used to provide a log management facility. The log management facility provides for a real time physical log merge of the data written into the log stream without interprocessor communication required to process the records in logical sequence. The log management facility supports concurrent write, delete, browse, and asynchronous off-load to dasd processes across multi-users and multi-systems. The log management facility maintains the log records, independent of the log media, in time sequence. A logical block id is assigned to each log record written so that it can be directly accessed at a later time.
Abstract:
A unilateral external fixation device for closed reduction of simple or comminuted long bone fractures includes a frame formed of composite materials which mounts a proximal carriage at one end and a distal carriage at the other end. The proximal carriage is adapted to mount half pins inserted in the proximal segment, and is supported on the frame by support arms which are movable with respect to the frame for adjusting the position of the proximal segment. The distal carriage includes a clamping member adapted to mount half pins inserted in the distal segment, which is pivotal about the fracture to permit precise adjustment of the distal segment for alignment with the proximal segment. A fragment support, mounted to one of the side rails of the support arm for the proximal carriage, is adapted to clamp a half pin inserted within a central fragment positioned between the proximal and distal segments of a comminuted fracture.
Abstract:
A stability control system for a vehicle that has an electric traction motor that provides torque to an axle through a differential. The traction motor responds to an instability event that is sensed by sensors on the vehicle by initially reducing the torque provided to the traction wheels to regain steering control. The traction motor then pulses increased torque in sequence with the application of braking force to provide enhanced direct yaw moment control.
Abstract:
A battery controller with monitoring logic for a model-based battery control of a battery performs battery current characterizing, parameter and state variable abnormality detection, and bound checking of error signals between measured and predicted output variables to generate an output. Switching between closed-loop operation (i.e., the model-based battery control) and open-loop operation (i.e., a traditional battery control) is done based on the output of the monitoring logic such that closed-loop stability and performance are reasonably guaranteed.
Abstract:
A vehicle trim assembly for mounting directly or indirectly to a vehicle wheel has a center cap, a locking member, and a cap badge. The locking member is mounted on the center cap, whereby a number of projecting portions provided on the locking member engage with a corresponding number of resilient catches provided on the center cap. The locking member is rotatable between a lock and an unlock position. In the lock position, separation of the center cap from the vehicle wheel is prevented by the locking member. When the cap badge is fitted to the assembly, features on the rear face of the cap badge engage with corresponding cooperating features on the center cap and the locking member, thereby preventing the locking member from moving relative to the center cap. An interference locking arrangement prevents the locking member from accidentally rotating from a lock to an unlock position.

A method of improving project outcome by using communication to assess a project, and improving the project outcome. A method of evaluating project performance based on the communication environment and communication objects used by identifying the desired characteristics of the project, selecting characterizations of the communication environment and communication objects to be Measurable Communication Actions (MCAs), establishing a baseline of planned communication (P COM) expressed in terms of the MCAs, taking measurements throughout the course of the project to assess the actual values for the MCAs and obtaining Actual Communication (A COM), comparing the A COM against the P COM and deriving a communication variance (COM V), and tracking COM V against the desired characteristics of the project. Methods of evaluating training programs and communications with jurors, evaluating and improving leadership development programs, acquisition programs research, development and technology evaluation programs, and knowledge creation, knowledge discovery and knowledge sharing programs.
