    Abstract: A method for steering a beam of vibratory energy to a desired angle .theta. with respect to the plane of an array of transducers, uses apparatus which generates a plurality of sampling strobe sequences with each strobe pulse occurring at a time interval T after the preceding strobe pulse, where T satisfies the Nyquist condition. A different one S.sub.j of the strobe signals is assigned to each different transducer channel and the commencement time of the strobe signal in each channel is offset by a time interval which is a first positive integer multiple M.sub.j, selected for each angle .theta., of an offset time interval which is not greater than 1/32nd of the reciprocal of the ultrasonic excitation frequency F.sub.u. Each strobe signal triggers conversion of the present amplitude of the return signal directly to a digital data word; the apparatus then digitally delays each data word in each of the N channels for a delay time interval selected to cause the delayed data words from all N channels, when coherently summed, to represent any change in reflectance in the beam at the desired angle .theta..

    Abstract: The beam characteristics of individual array elements of a linear transducer array are altered by collimation of ultrasonic waves using critical angle effects. A phased array transducer for a medical imaging system with a 90.degree. image sensor has a collimator which is a thin sheet of polyethylene. Acoustic waves whose angle of incidence is greater than the critical angle are totally reflected. Insignificant ultrasonic energy is generated outside of the imaged sector and there is a modest insertion loss over the acceptance region.

    Abstract: A system for fertilizing a large area. The system may include a fluid bar configured to be towed by a tractor. The fluid bar may include a fluid passageway with at least one aperture and a sensor or meter in communication with the aperture. The aperture may be configured to receive a hose or other attachment distributing fluid to the ground. The system may include a tank, a pump, pump controller and a filter. The pump flow rate and the outlet flow rate may be displayed on monitoring equipment located within a cab of the tractor. The pump controller may be used by the farmer to variably adjust the fluid pressure in each aperture and consequently adjust the flow pressure of fertilizer added to the ground.

    Abstract: Methods and systems for measuring mechanical property of a vascular wall and a method and system for determining health of a vascular structure are provided wherein local deformation of a vessel wall resulting from physiologic pressures with altered transmural forces is measured. A non-invasive free-hand ultrasound scanning-procedure was performed to apply external force, comparable to the force generated in measuring a subject's blood pressure, to achieve higher strains by equalizing the internal arterial baseline pressure. When the applied pressure matched the internal baseline diastolic pressure, strain and strain rate increased by a factor of 10 over a cardiac cycle. Radial arterial strain was assessed in the vessel wall over the entire deformation procedure using a phase-sensitive, two-dimensional speckle-tracking algorithm. An elastic modulus reconstruction procedure was developed to estimate the non-linear elastic properties of the vascular wall.
