Abstract:
An information processing system comprises an information processing apparatus, a switch, and a storage device, wherein the first communication ports and the third communication ports are connected to the second communication ports. When a response from a storage device to a data input/output request is not received within a predetermined time period, the information processing apparatus transmits a second and a third data input/output requests from the first communication port on the first communication channel, and transmits an inspection request to the switch to inspect a second communication port on the first communication channel. When responses to the second and third data input/output requests are not received within a predetermined time period, and a response to the inspection request is received within a predetermined time period, the information processing apparatus determines that there is a fault in the first communication port on the first communication channel.
Abstract:
An apparatus has a printer unit, a scanner unit, a front cover that opens upward in the direction of the back surface and forms a transport path of scanner paper discharged by the scanner unit, and mounting members provided on the front cover for detachably mounting the scanner unit in such an attitude that the main scanning direction becomes horizontal. Furthermore, as the need arises, the apparatus may have a scanner paper tray member rotatably connected to the front cover at a location higher than the mounting members for feeding scanner paper to the scanner unit.
Abstract:
When supporting an HDA including an H/DA and an electronic control circuit board for controlling the same in a fixed frame (drive bay) of upper level apparatus by means of elastic or “soft” fixation, counterforce of an FPC cable gives it bad influence. When rigidly securing the HDA in a translational motion direction while attaining soft fixation in a direction of rotation, the HDA is rotatably supported with its center of gravity being as the center of rotation in a soft secure/support mechanism as taught from Published Japanese Patent Application No. 8-161880 (JP-A-8161880) for example; however, in the case of employing one of commercially available general purpose HDAs, this is disposed so that a bent or curved portion of its cable is identical in position to the rotation center or placed at a nearby location of the gravity center to thereby preclude the stiffness of an FPC cable hardly affects such rotatable support mechanism. This makes it possible to minimize creation of a torque posing a bar to free rotation of the HDA, which in turn enables mounting of the general purpose HDA thereby permitting wide spread of soft securing techniques. It is possible to facilitate popularization of a scheme for mounting a magnetic disk drive into portable or mobile equipment.
Abstract:
The picking roller successively picks a plurality of sheets of paper stacked on the shooter from the bottom of the paper stack. The gate extends substantially perpendicular to a paper transport direction and forms a predetermined clearance between the picking roller. The separation pad is disposed in sliding contact with the outer circumferential surface of the picking roller and adapted to draw inside a single sheet of paper. The picking arm is driven to move to an upper position when sheets of paper are placed on the shooter, and to a lower position when the sheets of paper are fed in order to press the sheets of paper placed on the shooter toward the outer circumferential surface of the picking roller. The paper guide is disposed above the picking roller and has an opening and a bridge portion. The bridge portion extends across the opening and is fitted in a circumferential groove formed in an axially center portion of the picking roller.
Abstract:
There are provided an ultraviolet-cutoff material comprising a material, capable of cutting off ultraviolet light, coated with a clay mineral, and a process for preparing an ultraviolet-cutoff material, comprising the steps of dispersing a clay mineral in a medium, dispersing a material capable of cutting off ultraviolet light in a medium, mixing the two dispersion liquids prepared in the steps a) and b) together to coat the material capable of cutting off ultraviolet light with the mixture, subjecting the mixture to solid-liquid separation and heating the solid matter provided in the step d).
Abstract:
A miniature magnetic disk device or a miniature optical disk device has a recording disk having a diameter less than or equal to 0.7 inches. The disk device also includes a spindle motor which rotates the recording disk, a read/write head for recording or reproducing information on and from the recording disk, a support member which holds the read/write head, and a support shaft which is coupled to the support member. A voice coil motor, which is coupled to the support member and the support shaft, sets the read/write head in a desired position over the disk. A resistor which has a value of at least 2.5.OMEGA. is connected in series with a coil of the voice coil motor, and the resistor makes it possible to reduce power consumption of the voice coil motor. The resistor may be a variable resistor, and a conductor of the coil may have a cross-sectional area less than 2.55.times.10.sup.-3 mm.sup.2. A ratio h/t of a thickness h of the coil to a thickness t of a magnetic circuit of the voice coil motor have be at least 0.25. Moreover, by mounting several of these disks on a board which is standardized as PCMCIA type 3, a miniature array disk device is formed.
Abstract:
A canopy for a paraglider or a parachute. The canopy including upper and lower sides and a plurality of ribs extending between the sides and made of a mesh cloth. The upper and lower sides and the ribs define a plurality of cells which are arranged adjacent one another. Each of the cells has an opening at a front end thereof for introducing air into the canopy. The mesh cloth of the ribs includes large and small apertures disposed therein. According to one embodiment, either the large or the small apertures are arranged in matrix-like groups which are separated from one another by the other of the large and small apertures. According to another embodiment, the large and small apertures are disposed in groups which are arranged parallel to one another in the vertical direction.
Abstract:
A thermal transfer printer including a thermal head for generating heat in accordance with a desired print pattern, a platen having a surface for supporting an ink-sheet and paper, the ink-sheet and paper being pressed by the thermal head on the platen surface so that ink from the ink-sheet is transferred to the paper, a paper supply for storing and supplying paper, an ink-sheet supply and drive for storing and supplying an ink-sheet, the ink-sheet supply and drive driving the ink-sheet to move in accordance with the movement of the paper, a paper drive arranged between the platen and the paper supply, the paper drive driving the paper by the required length according to the position of the paper relative to the position of the platen, and a paper tension device for applying suitable tension to the paper at least between the platen and the paper drive so that the length by which the paper drive drives the paper is identical with the length by which the paper moves on the platen. Since the length by which the paper moves on the platen corresponds only to the length by which the paper drive drives the paper, the length by which the paper moves on the platen can be correctly controlled through the paper drive.
Abstract:
A mounting structure of an inlet box of a car which includes an outer panel of the car having a hole, an inlet box inserted in the hole, a flange provided around the opening of the inlet box and an engaging claw provided on the outer peripheral surface of the inlet box. The flange is set around the hole from the outside onto the edge. The flange is screwed to the edge of the hole of the outer panel from the inside. The engaging claw engages the hole of the edge of the outer panel from the inside when the flange is set on the edge of the hole. The engaging claw is capable of disengaging from the edge of the hole by a disengagement operation occurring inside the outer panel.
Abstract:
Techniques for analyzing a social graph of a social network service to identify and then present connection paths connecting various entities are described. With some embodiments, subsequent to a user selecting or otherwise identifying two entities represented as nodes in a social graph, the social graph is analyzed to identify connection paths connecting the nodes representing the two entities. The social graph is implemented with a graph data structure having nodes and edges representing entities and associations between entities, respectively. With some embodiments, the nodes represent people, companies, educational institutions (e.g., schools, universities, etc.), and groups. After identifying the connection paths, the connection path or paths having the highest path scores, as derived by aggregating edge scores assigned to the edges, may be presented.
