Abstract: A method, apparatus, and system for executing a lane change is disclosed. That an ADV is in a lane changing region for an anticipated lane change into a neighboring target lane in a first direction is determined. The first direction is either a left direction or a right direction in a direction of travel of the ADV. A reference line is moved toward the target lane in the first direction at a predetermined rate while the reference line is kept within a current lane of the ADV. A gap in traffic for the anticipated lane change is searched for. Thereafter, in response to finding the gap in traffic for the anticipated lane change, the ADV is controlled to complete the lane change into the target lane.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a system displays a priority sign for a first road and a yield sign for a second road as a default right of way for a road intersection. The system receives signals from one or more X2X sensors detecting a traffic flow for a predetermined segment of road for each of the first and the second roads before the road intersection. If it is determined the traffic flow of the first road has no vehicle and the traffic flow of the second road includes at least one vehicle, the system initiates a first timer to count a predetermined time duration. If the traffic flow of the first road is determined to remain with no vehicle for the predetermined time duration, the system reverses the default right of way for the intersection so traffic signs for the first road displays yield and the second road displays priority.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a first set of driving statistics is measured and collected from an autonomous driving vehicle (ADV) at different points in time in response to various control commands while the ADV is driving in various driving environments. Based on the first set of driving statistics, a search is conducted in each of the load calibration tables to find a load calibration table having similar driving statistics. One of the load calibration tables is selected, which contains a second set of driving statistics that are most similar to the first set of driving statistics. A current load of the ADV is determined based on the selected load calibration table, for example, by designating the load associated with the selected load calibration table as the current load of the ADV. The load of the ADV can be utilized as a factor for generating subsequent control commands for the ADV.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a lane assistant system is configured to provide lane assistance to a driver of an autonomous driving vehicle (ADV) based on the driver's intention determined at the point in time by capturing and analyzing user actions and driving environment surrounding the ADV. By analyzing the user actions and the driving environment surrounding the vehicle, the driver's intention can be determined. The driver's intention can be utilized to interpret whether the driver indeed intends to change lane. Based on the driver's intention, the lane assistance can be provided, either allowing the vehicle change or exit the current lane, or automatically providing warning or correction of the moving direction of the vehicle.

Abstract: A control command is estimated based on a target position in view of a current speed and a current position of the ADV. Based on the estimated control command, a range of confidence positions that the ADV may potentially reach is determined. The range of confidence positions is examined to determine whether the range of confidence positions is within a safety zone, where the safety zone is determined based on the perception data that perceives a driving environment surrounding the ADV at the point in time. If the potential positions the ADV may reaches is within the safety zone, the estimated control command is then applied to the ADV. If the range of confidence positions is outside of the safety zone, another control command is estimated and the above process is repeatedly performed until the range of confidence positions falls within the safety zone.

Abstract: In one embodiment, perception data is received perceiving a driving environment surrounding an ADV, including an object in front of the ADV. In response the perception data, a collision detection system determines a relative speed and distance between the ADV and the object based on the perception data. The collision detection system determines whether a collision between the ADV and the object is avoidable in view of the physical driving limitation associated with the ADV. The physical driving limitation may include a maximum braking capability or a maximum deceleration rate that can be applied to the ADV. If it is determined that such a collision is unavoidable, an airbag is deployed prior to the collision between the ADV and the object.

Abstract: In one embodiment, driving statistics of an autonomous vehicle are collected. The driving statistics include driving commands, speeds, and changes of speeds in response to the driving commands at different points in time represented by one or more command cycles. Command delay candidates for the autonomous vehicle are determined, each of the command delay candidates represented by one or more command cycles. For each of the command delay candidates, a percentage is calculated for driving commands that resulted in a response of the autonomous vehicle conforming to the driving commands associated with the command delay candidate. One of the command delay candidates having the highest percentage of conformity is selected as the command delay for the autonomous vehicle. The command delay is utilized to plan and control subsequent operations of the autonomous vehicle.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, a content item is received that was identified in response to a search query received from a client. It is determined whether the search query is within a predetermined percentage of total search queries that yield the content item. In response to determining that the search query is within the predetermined percentage of the total search queries, a search is performed in an image store based on one or more keywords associated with the search query to identify a list of one or more images and one of the identified images is selected to be matched with the content item. Otherwise, a predetermined preferred image is selected to be matched with the content item. The content item is incorporated with the selected image to generate a composite content item to be transmitted to the client.
