    摘要: A liquid crystal display (LCD) and a driving method thereof are provided. The LCD comprises a liquid crystal panel having a gate line, a data line, and a pixel defined by the intersection of the gate line and the data line; a grayscale voltage generating unit for generating a grayscale voltage; a driving voltage generating unit for generating a gate off voltage, a positive polarity gate on voltage, and a negative polarity gate on voltage, wherein the negative polarity gate on voltage is lower than the positive polarity gate on voltage; a gate driving unit for supplying the gate line with at least one of the positive polarity gate on voltage and the negative polarity gate on voltage; a data driving unit for supplying the pixel with a data voltage, wherein the data driving unit is supplied with the grayscale voltage from the grayscale voltage generating unit; and a signal control unit for controlling the data driving unit so that a positive polarity data voltage and a negative polarity data voltage are alternately applied to the pixel, and for controlling the gate driving unit so that the positive polarity gate on voltage is applied to the pixel supplied with the positive polarity data voltage and the negative polarity gate on voltage is applied to the pixel supplied with the negative polarity data voltage. Accordingly, the degree of flicker and image sticking is reduced.

The third transistor being separated from an additional gate line is connected to the storage electrode line such that the aperture ratio can be increased, and visibility and transmittance can be enhanced.

    摘要: A display substrate includes respective pluralities of gate lines, data lines, switching elements, storage lines, pixel electrodes, and an organic insulation layer. The gate lines and the data lines define a plurality of unit pixels. The storage lines are respectively formed adjacent to the respective drain electrodes of the respective switching elements of respective rows of the unit pixels. The organic insulation layer has a hole that is formed within the area of each of the unit pixels and that extends from a contact area formed at a portion of the corresponding drain electrode of the pixel to a portion corresponding to the storage line thereof. This arrangement enables the marginal area needed to prevent mismatch of the hole in the areas of the contact area and the storage line to be reduced, thereby increasing the aperture ratio of the display.

    摘要: A vertical alignment liquid crystal display includes two sub-pixels each with a variable capacitor. A pixel is bisected into a high gray sub-pixel and a low gray sub-pixel through forming a variable capacitor at each sub-pixel. With this structure, the sub-pixels express different grays so that lateral visibility is enhanced. It is not required in bisecting a pixel into two sub-pixels to form separate wires for applying different signals thereto, and the amount of data to be processed at the driver for driving the display device is reduced. Furthermore, a pixel is bisected into two sub-pixels with variable capacitors in a simplified manner, and it is not required to form additional wires and elements, so the aperture ratio is enhanced.

In addition, the lower alignment layer is formed on the pixel electrode and irradiated with ultraviolet (UV) light to provide different alignment directions that correspond to the sub-pixel areas.
