A double-pole-double-throw (DPDT) electromechanical relay employing a movable first magnet and a nearby third electromagnet is disclosed. The movable first magnet is permanently magnetized with a magnetic moment and has at least a first end and a second end. The third electromagnet, when energized, produces a third magnetic field which is primarily perpendicular to the magnetization direction of the first movable magnet and exerts a magnetic torque on the first magnet to force the first magnet to rotate and closes electrical conduction paths at the first end. Changing the direction of the electrical current in the third electromagnet changes the direction of the third magnetic field and thus the direction of the magnetic torque on the first magnet, and causes the first magnet to rotate in an opposite direction and opens the electrical conduction path at the first end and closes the electrical conduction paths at the second end. Latching, non-latching types, and various forms (normally open or closed, etc.) of relays can be formed by appropriately adjusting various force magnitudes.

The movable body comprises a first magnet which is permanently magnetized and has at least a first end. The apparatus can include a vocoder having different bit rate modes and a bit rate mode is selected based upon the dial string entered by a user. Dial strings can be stored at the device or on a network. The apparatus can include a mode selector to select a desired vocoder mode to generate an encoded voice signal.

A latching relay employing a movable cantilever with a first permanent magnet and a nearby second magnet is disclosed. The permanent magnet affixed to the cantilever is permanently magnetized along its long (horizontal) axis. The cantilever has a first end associated to the first pole (e.g., north pole) of the first magnet, and a second end associated to the second pole (e.g., south pole) of the first magnet. When the first end of the cantilever approaches the second magnet, the first pole of the first magnet induces a local opposite pole (e.g., south pole) in the second magnet and causes the first end of the cantilever to be attracted to the local opposite pole of the second magnet, closing an electrical conduction path (closed state). An open state on the first end of cantilever 10 can be maintained either by the second pole of first magnet being attracted to a local opposite pole in the second magnet or by a mechanical restoring force of flexure spring which supports the cantilever. A magnetic generator provides a third magnetic field about the first magnet and produces a torque on the associated cantilever to force the cantilever to switch in one of the closed, neutral and open states.

At least two different methods and various combinations of apparatus are disclosed for remotely actuating call forwarding when the subscriber of a wireless network does not have their mobile device with them or have access to the internet. In one method the subscriber dials a string of digits comprising a wireless carrier routing string to route the call to within their wireless network. A service feature invoking string of a single digit or two dialed digits is entered to identify a sub-address appendix. More importantly, the subscriber identifies themselves to their wireless network by entering a sequence of dialed digits, preferably their subscriber number (SN) and a personal identifier or PIN where the feature invoking string separates the SN from the PIN entry. Finally, the subscriber, if calling from the destination phone enters a digit signifying they have reached the destination. If the subscriber is calling from an intermediate phone along the way to their destination, the subscriber enters the entire destination telephone number. An alternative embodiment involves the use of interactive voice response equipment within the wireless network accessed by the caller inside or outside the wireless network. The call forwarding service feature or other features such as entering a service feature cancellation command, a follow me list of telephone numbers and scheduled times or a list of priorities for receiving calls (such as a friends and family list versus junk mail) may be actuated from an intermediate phone or a destination phone inside or outside the network.

A method, system, and apparatus for testing one or more micro-magnetic switches on a wafer is described. A magnet is positioned adjacent to a first switch on the wafer. A probe card is positioned adjacent to the first switch. The probe card mounts a first set of probes and a second set of probes. The first set of probes interface with contact areas of a coil associated with the first switch. The second set of probes interface with conductors on the wafer associated with the cantilever of the first switch. A current source is electrically coupled to the first set of probes. The current source activates the coil of the first switch using the first set of probes to switch the cantilever from a first state to a second state. A switch state monitor is electrically coupled to the second set of probes. The switch state monitor determines whether the cantilever of the first switch is in the first state prior to the current source activating the coil of the first switch. The switch state monitor also determines whether the cantilever is in the second state after the current source activates the coil of the first switch. A stepper motor moves the wafer relative to the magnet and probe card to test further switches on the wafer. An inker marks a switch on the wafer that has been determined by the switch state monitor to be defective.

Described is a process to pattern adhesion and top contact layers in such a way that at least some portion of the top contact layers overlaps the adhesion layer, while another portion of the top contact layer overlaps with the bottom contacts, but does not overlap with the adhesion layer. The overlap between the top contact layer and the adhesion layer helps to hold the top contact layer onto the sacrificial layer. Because there is no overlap between the adhesion layer and the bottom contact, the removal of adhesion layer is no longer necessary, leading to better contacts and simplifying the fabrication process.
