    摘要: A permanent magnet is pivotally mounted in a top spacer layer of a switching device and rests on a flex arm created in an underlying flex circuit layer. The underside of the flex arm rests on a thin bar formed in a lower spacer layer beneath which lies a base layer including an electromagnet. Activation of the electromagnet causes rotation of the flex arm to thereby close and open electrical contacts formed respectively on the underside of the flex arm and on the top surface of the base layer.

    摘要: A micro-machined magnetic latching relay has a moveable cantilever comprising a soft magnetic material and having a first end and a second end. The cantilever has a rotational axis which is a flexure supported by a substrate. A first permanent and a second permanent magnet are disposed near the first end and the second end of the cantilever respectively. Each of the two magnets produces a magnetic force and a torque on the cantilever. The first permanent magnet, second permanent magnet and the substrate are arranged to provide two stable positions for the cantilever. An electromagnet provides a temporary switching magnetic field to adjust the local magnetizations across the magnetic cantilever, causing changes of magnetic forces and torques on the cantilever. As a result, the direction of a sum of torque on the cantilever is reversed. Therefore, the cantilever is switched from one stable position to the other.

    摘要: A method of fabricating a MEMS switch having a free moving inductive element within in micro-cavity guided by at least one inductive coil. The switch consists of an upper inductive coil at one end of a micro-cavity; optionally, a lower inductive coil; and a free-moving inductive element preferably made of magnetic material. The coils are provided with an inner permalloy core. Switching is achieved by passing a current through the upper coil, inducing a magnetic field unto the inductive element. The magnetic field attracts the free-moving inductive element upwards, shorting two open conductive wires, closing the switch. When the current flow stops or is reversed, the free-moving magnetic element drops back by gravity to the bottom of the micro-cavity and the conductive wires open. When the chip is not mounted with the correct orientation, the lower coil pulls the free-moving inductive element back at its original position.
