摘要: A system and method is provided for heating fluid to be pumped by an electrical submersible pumping system. Heat for heating the fluid may be inductively generated by adjusting the power delivered to the motor of the pumping system. In one example, the power adjustment includes supplying the voltage applied to the pump motor to a value less than voltage applied during normal operations. While lowering the voltage the electrical frequency may be varied as well as the electrical waveform.

摘要: An electrical submersible pump assembly has a motor cooperatively engaged with a pump for driving the pump and a motor lead extending to the motor for supplying power to the motor. The motor lead has an electrical conductor enclosed within a tube. The tube is sealed from an exterior environment of the motor and contains a dielectric fluid. The motor may be filled with a dielectric lubricant and the interior of the tube of the motor lead may be in fluid communication with the dielectric lubricant. Alternatively, the motor may filled with a dielectric lubricant and the dielectric fluid within the interior of the tube of the motor lead may be sealed from the dielectric lubricant.

摘要: A method for manufacturing an electrical cable provides an electrical cable suitable for use in heating wells. An elastomeric jacket is extruded over insulated conductors. A stainless steel plate is rolled around the jacket to form a cylindrical coiled tubing having a seam. The seam is welded, then the tubing is swaged down to a lesser diameter to cause the tubing to frictionally grip the jacket. A recess may be formed in the jacket adjacent the seam to avoid heat damage from the welding process.

摘要: A method of heating gas being produced in a well reduces condensate occurring in the well. A cable assembly having at least one insulated conductor is deployed into the well while the well is still live. Electrical power is applied to the conductor to cause heat to be generated. Gas is allowed up past the cable assembly and out the wellhead. The heat retards condensation, which creates frictional losses in the gas flow.

摘要: A method for installing a submersible pump assembly that allows deployment in a live well under pressure. In some of the embodiments, a pressure barrier is installed in the well lower than a length of the submersible pump assembly. The submersible pump assembly is lowered on a line into the chamber, then a lubricator at the surface seals around the line by allowing the pressure barrier to be released and the submersible pump assembly to be lowered into the well to a desired depth. Preferably, there is a lower pressure barrier in the well. The upper pressure barrier may be a packer that may be collapsed and retrieved alongside the submersible pump assembly. The pressure barrier also may be a packer that is temporarily set in the well, then engaged by the submersible pump assembly, with the pump assembly and packer then being lowered as a unit to a further depth in the well.

摘要: An electrical coupling assembly for conducting electricity between two areas of different pressures including a hollow housing extending between the areas of different pressures, an upper electrical cable connector slidably coupled within the upper end of the housing, an upper penetrator assembly located in the housing for sealing the upper end of the housing, three electrical conductors located in the housing for conducting electricity between the upper and lower ends of the housing, a lower penetrator assembly located in the housing for sealing the lower end of the housing, and a lower electrical cable connector slidably coupled within the lower end of the housing. The longitudinal axes of the upper connector, upper penetrator assembly, and upper connecting ends of the conductors are offset from the longitudinal axes of the lower connector, lower penetrator assembly, and the lower connecting ends of the conductors. Each of the upper and lower penetrator assemblies has a seal initially compressed by spring washers. The spring washers are located below the seals to provide redundant sealing for preventing oil well fluids from leaking out of the oil well. The upper and lower connectors are slidably coupled within the housing and exposed to the external pressures for maintaining the pressure inside the housing at least equal to the pressure outside the housing.

摘要: An electrical coupling for conducting electricity between areas of different pressures including a hollow housing extending between the areas of different pressures, an electrical cable extending through the housing, a seal located in the housing, a compression assembly for compressing the seal, a first pressure-equalizing assembly at one end of the housing for maintaining the pressure inside the housing at least equal to the pressure outside the housing at that end, and a second pressure-equalizing assembly at the other end of the housing for maintaining the pressure inside the housing at least equal to the pressure outside the housing at that other end. Each of the pressure-equalizing assemblies comprises a dielectric flowable grease filling the otherwise empty spaces inside the housing and a movable wall, that is exposed to the exterior pressure, pressurizing the grease. These pressure-equalizing assemblies perform an electrical insulating function by preventing contaminants from reaching the electrical cable.

摘要: An elongated, reinforced power cable for use in adverse environments. The cable is provided with internal structural members to resist crushing and other mechanical forces. The cable includes at least two power conductor assemblies which extend along the longitudinal axis of the cable. A protective metallic layer is provided for each conductor assembly and completely encases each conductor assembly. The conductor assemblies and protective metallic layers are aligned in a row within the cable, the row having a left end, a right end, a top plane and a bottom plane. A rigid support member is positioned at each end of the row of conductor assemblies. The support members have a height at least equal to the height of the protective layers to prevent compression of the protective layers and conductor assemblies. An armored covering is provided which fully encloses the support members, the protective layers and the conductor assemblies. The row has portions of the top and bottom planes which are not covered by a rigid support member. The protective metallic layers may have either a square cross section or a generally square cross section with chamfered edges.
