摘要: Provided is a priming mechanism for priming a biofluid drop ejection device having a drop ejection opening leading to an ejection reservoir. The priming mechanism includes a vacuum unit which generates a vacuum force, connected to a vacuum nozzle. The vacuum nozzle is located over the drop ejection opening. A disposable sleeve or tubing is attached to the vacuum nozzle and is placed in operational contact with the drop ejection opening. A fluid height detection sensor is positioned to sense a fluid height within at least one of the disposable tubing and the vacuum nozzle. Upon sensing a predetermined fluid height, by the fluid height detection sensor, the priming operation is completed, and the primer mechanism is removed from the operational contact with the drop ejection opening.

摘要: An array of light control units has an area large enough to present images for direct viewing. The array also has light control units sufficiently dense that ordinary acuity artifacts are not noticeable in presented images when the array is directly viewed at usual viewing distances by a human with normal vision. Signal circuitry can provide signals to the light control units. The array can present an image that includes M colors, where M is more than three, even though each light control unit can only cause presentation of one of a segment with one of a set of N colors, where N is less than M. Data defining an input image with M colors are used to obtain data defining an output image that is a version of the input image but includes, for each light control unit, a color data item indicating one of its set of N colors. The signal circuitry provides signals to the light control units so that each light control unit presents a segment with the color indicated by its color data item. As a result, the array presents the output image so that its appearance to a human with normal vision viewing the array at usual viewing distances is substantially identical to the appearance the input image would have if presented.

摘要: A light sensing and display driving apparatus is operable independent of polling cycle providing a more accurate sensing of the patterns of illumination incident on an array of such apparatus, with a minimum of required interconnections per pixel. Each address line may simultaneously initialize one row of apparatus while enabling the subsequent row of apparatus. The apparatus is also compatible with elements capable of providing gain in the sensing mode, given that the photosensitive element is separate from the path across which voltage or current is measured. The display driving portion is compatible with standard active-matrix LCDs. The apparatus allows a minimum physical isolation between the sensing and display portions while maintaining sufficient electrical isolation to prevent the deleterious effects resulting from application of a display driving potential to sensing circuitry, and allows employing a timing scheme for both sensing and display driving within a short time period. The apparatus may be fabricated of amorphous silicon. The apparatus includes, inter alia, a conductive element interconnecting input and output terminals, a multiple-state sensing device whose state changes in response to the incidence of electromagnetic or ionizing radiation thereupon, apparatus connected to the conductive element and to the sensing device for modifying the conductance of the conductive element as a function of the state of the sensing device, and a display driving element connected also to the input and output terminals. A filter may be interposed between a light source and the circuit or the array of circuits to provide color or similar source differentiation.

摘要: An analyzer includes a flow cell having a flow channel through which a sample passes. A light source excites at least a first particle type in the sample in one or more excitation region(s), and a detector detects light emitted by the excited particle. A spatial filter defines detection regions, wherein light emitted by the particle is transmitted to the detector, and interspersed shielded regions, wherein such light is at least partially blocked from reaching the detector. The light emitted by the excited particle has a response time τ1, and the sample may also contain a component that is excited by the light source and that has a response time τ2

摘要: An implantable product includes an optical cavity structure with first and second parts, each of which can operate as an optical cavity. The first part includes a container with at least one opening through which bodily fluid can transfer between the container's interior and exterior when the product is implanted in a body. The second part includes a container that is closed and contains a reference fluid. The implantable product can also include one or both of a light source component and a photosensing component. Photosensed quantities from the first part's output light can be adjusted based on photosensed quantities from the second part's output light. Both parts can have their light interface surfaces aligned so that they both receive input light from a light source component and both provide output light to a photosensing component.

摘要: Thermal detectors and thermal sensing cells can include a region of a support layer or support structure. Within the region can be reaction surfaces or other reaction regions, as well as contact pads and circuitry connecting the contact pads to other components. Also, a cell region can include a structure with reaction regions, contact pads, and control/detection circuitry connected to the contact pads; the control/detection circuitry controls occurrence of reactions in response to control signals, such as by drop merging, and also allows electrical detection of thermal signals from the reaction regions. The control/detection circuitry can include reaction control components such as drop merger electrodes and also thermal sensors such as thermistors, or it can include control/sensor elements such as semiconductor slabs that perform both functions. Each cell in an array can have control/detection circuitry that does not extend or connect outside the cell except through contact pads.
