摘要: Disclosed is a method for driving a plasma display panel in which a plurality of first electrodes and second electrodes are arranged parallel to each other, a plurality of third electrodes are arranged to cross the first and second electrodes, and discharge cells defined with areas in which the electrodes cross mutually are arranged in the form of a matrix. According to the driving method, a reset period is a period during which the distribution of wall charges in the plurality of discharge cells is uniformed. An addressing period is a period during which wall charges are produced in the discharge cells according to display data. A sustain discharge period is a period during which sustain discharge is induced in the discharge cells in which wall charges are produced during the addressing period. The driving method in accordance with the present invention comprises a step of applying a first pulse in which an applied voltage varies with time so as to induce first discharge in the lines defined by the first and second electrodes, and a step of applying a second pulse in which an applied voltage varies with time so as to induce second discharge as erase discharge in the lines defined by the first and second electrodes. These steps are carried out during the reset period.

摘要: The plasma display apparatus, in which the light emission efficiency is improved, has been disclosed. The fourth electrodes, which extend in the same direction of the first electrodes (X electrode) and the second electrodes (Y electrodes) and are exposed into the discharge space, are provided between the first and the second electrodes where the sustaining discharge is carried out, and when the sustain action is carried out, the fixed voltage between the voltage applied to the first electrode and that applied to the second electrode is applied to the fourth electrode provided between the first and the second electrodes where the sustain action is carried out in order to make the electric field between the first and the second electrodes uniform.

摘要: A driving method and a plasma display apparatus of a plasma display panel, that provides stable operations even if the width of a scan pulse is reduced, has been disclosed. In this apparatus, an auxiliary scan pulse is applied to an X electrode after a scan pulse applied to a Y electrode (second electrode) is removed. In this way, a discharge is caused to occur between an address electrode and the Y electrode propagates to the space between the X electrode and the Y electrode, and the discharge between the X electrode and the Y electrode develops after the scan pulse is removed and a sufficient amount of wall charges is formed.

摘要: A discharge is initiated in a cell in which an address discharge is conducted at a first timing T1 in a charge adjustment period. Next, at a second timing T2, a discharge is initiated for adjusting a wall charge in a cell where a charge remains therein because the address discharge does not occurred. Thus, some negative charges are formed in an X electrode and a Y electrode, thus preventing a false discharge from occurring in an unselected cell.

摘要: An electrode drive circuit performs interlaced scanning, ensuring that the phases of the sustaining pulse in odd-numbered lines and even-numbered lines among L1 to L8 between surface discharge electrodes are the reverse of each other. With this, when either odd-numbered lines or even-numbered lines are displayed, the voltages applied between the electrodes of the undisplayed lines are at 0, eliminating the necessity for partitioning walls on the surface discharge electrodes. In surface discharge electrodes, X electrodes are provided on the two sides of a Y electrode and the area between the Y electrode and the X electrode on one side is assigned a display line at an odd-numbered frame, and the area between the Y electrode and the X electrode on the other side is assigned a display line in an even-numbered frame. Alternate areas between the surface discharge electrodes are assigned as blind lines and a discharge light emission in the blind lines is blocked or incident light to the blind lines from the outside is absorbed. Address electrodes are provided for each monochromatic pixel column and selectively connected with the pads above them, performing simultaneous selection of lines.
