摘要: A system for oscillating compressible working fluid in a wellbore defined in a subterranean formation includes a fluid supply and a fluid oscillator device. The fluid supply communicates compressible working fluid into a conduit disposed within the wellbore. The fluid oscillator device is configured to reside in the wellbore. The fluid oscillator device includes an interior surface that defines an interior volume of the fluid oscillator device, an inlet into the interior volume, and an outlet from the interior volume. The interior surface is static during operation to receive the compressible working fluid into the interior volume through the inlet and to vary over time a flow rate of the compressible working fluid from the interior volume through the outlet.

摘要: A very high data rate telemetry system is provided for use in a wellbore. In a described embodiment, a telemetry system includes multiple nodes positioned in the wellbore and distributed over a substantial length of the wellbore. The nodes simultaneously communicate with a remote location at a very high combined data transmission rate. A method of communicating data in a wellbore is also provided. The method includes the steps of installing multiple modems in the wellbore, installing a remote modem at a location remote from the downhole modems, and simultaneously communicating data from each of the downhole modems to the remote location. Each downhole modem communicates with the remote modem using a unique set of frequency subchannels.

摘要: A method of optimizing performance of a well system utilizes a neural network. In a described embodiment, the method includes the step of accumulating data indicative of the performance of the well system in response to variable influencing parameters. The data is used to train a neural network to model an output of the well system in response to the influencing parameters. An output of the neural network may then be input to a valuing model, e.g., to permit optimization of a value of the well system. The optimization process yields a set of prospective influencing parameters which may be incorporated into the well system to maximize its value.

摘要: A method of progressively gravel packing is provided which enables individual sections of a continuous wellbore portion to be gravel packed in succession. In a described embodiment, multiple well screens are positioned in a wellbore. A continuous portion of the wellbore is isolated using, for example, one or more packers, with the well screens being disposed in the isolated portion. The isolated wellbore portion is then progressively gravel packed in successive individual predetermined sections of the isolated wellbore portion.

摘要: Disclosed are improved pressure transducer apparatus and methods of sensing and measuring pressure, or pressure and temperature, in a subterranean environment. The transducer apparatus and methods use a piezoelectric crystal transducer with at least one internal chamber therein and electrical output terminals on the exterior of the body. One or more piezoelectric crystal sensor located in the body and associated microelectronics located in the body connect to output terminals for producing an electrical signal responsive to pressure, temperature, or temperature and pressure.

摘要: A downhole choke and associated methods provide enhanced efficiency and accuracy in well sampling and testing operations due to its capability for substantially minimizing the amount of time needed to establish steady state flow conditions in a well, and the ability to sample fluids downhole at varying downhole flow restrictions. In a described embodiment, a downhole choke is operable to restrict fluid flow therethrough by applying a predetermined fluid pressure to an annulus formed between the choke and the wellbore. The downhole choke has an axial flow passage formed therethrough, a portion of which has interchangeable flow areas. The flow areas are interchanged upon application of the predetermined fluid pressure, and again interchanged upon expiration of a time delay. One of the flow areas permits substantially unrestricted fluid flow therethrough, and another of the flow areas permits restricted flow therethrough.

摘要: Apparatus and method for testing an open-hole well and obtaining a fluid sample therefrom. The apparatus comprises a compression packer on a drill pipe. Disposed in the drill pipe is a housing, defining a surge chamber therein, and a closure valve in communication with the surge chamber. A fluid sampler is in communication with the surge chamber. In operation, the packer is placed in a set position by setting down weight. The closure valve is pressure actuated so that fluid is flowed from a formation or zone of interest into the surge chamber and then into the sampler. By opening a housing valve at an upper end of the surge chamber, formation fluid may be forced back into the formation or zone of interest by a bull-heading operation. In a preferred embodiment, the packer and drill pipe are disconnectable from the remainder of the apparatus, and the packer is drillable.
