Abstract: A method of operating a terminal device in a wireless telecommunications system is disclosed. The terminal device is configured to selectively switch between an active operating mode and a reduced-power operating mode. The method comprises communicating with a network entity to exchange a block of data between the terminal device and the network entity while the terminal device is in the active operating mode. The method further comprises determining when communications associated with the exchange of the block of data are complete, and in response to determining communications associated with the exchange of the block of data are complete, switching from the active operating mode to the reduced-power operating mode.

Abstract: A method of operating a terminal device and a base station in a wireless telecommunications system to communicate with one another using a primary component carrier operating on radio resources within a first frequency band and a secondary component carrier operating on radio resources within a second frequency band. The terminal device makes measurements of radio usage in the second frequency band, e.g. by other devices which are not part of the wireless telecommunications system but which can also use radio resources within the second frequency band. The terminal device transmits an indication of the measurements to the base station, and on the basis if this the base station establishes a configuration setting for the secondary component carrier, for example in terms of frequency resources to use for the secondary component carrier. The configuration setting is associated with a validity period during which the base station communicates data to the terminal device using the primary component carrier and the secondary component carrier operating in accordance with its configuration setting. When the validity period expires, the terminal device again measures and reports on radio usage so the base station can determine an updated configuration setting for the secondary component carrier that takes account of any changes in radio usage during the validity period.

Abstract: A method of evaluating whether to handover a terminal device from communicating with a first network infrastructure element associated with a first communication cell to communicating with a second network infrastructure element associated with a second communication cell in a wireless telecommunications system. The method includes establishing an indication of radio conditions associated with a path between the terminal device and the first network infrastructure element; and establishing an indication of a second measurement of radio conditions associated with a communication path between the terminal device and the second network infrastructure element; and determining whether to handover the terminal device from communicating with the first network infrastructure element to the second network infrastructure element based on a comparison of the indication of the first measurement of radio conditions and the indication of the second measurement of radio conditions.

Abstract: A method for use in a mobile communications network that includes a plurality of infrastructure equipment each providing wireless connectivity within at least one cell, and a communications device configured to communicate wirelessly with at least a first infrastructure equipment including use of a radio bearer. Abstract: A method of operating a terminal device to perform measurement event evaluation for measurement reporting in respect of a downlink carrier in a wireless telecommunications system. The method includes determining that measurement event evaluation for the downlink carrier should be undertaken. Measurements of a parameter associated with radio channel conditions for frequency resources used by the downlink carrier are obtained during an evaluation period beginning at a start time. The extent to which the downlink carrier is being transmitted during the evaluation period is also established. Whether or not to send a measurement report to network infrastructure equipment is then evaluated by taking account of both the measurements of the parameter during the evaluation period and the extent to which the downlink carrier is being transmitted during the evaluation period.

Abstract: An infrastructure equipment that transmits a radio network identifier to a communications device for identifying the communications device when allocating communications resources of the wireless access interface for transmitting downlink data to the communications device. After the communications device has entered an inactive connected state, the infrastructure equipment transmits control signals including the radio network identifier for allocating communications resources of the wireless access interface for the communications device to receive downlink data, determine whether the communications device is still within a radio coverage area of the infrastructure equipment, and if the communications device has left the coverage area, transmit an indication to the one or more other infrastructure equipment via the inter-connecting interface to trigger a process for transmitting downlink data to the communications device from the one or more other infrastructure equipment.
