摘要: According to one embodiment, a liquid crystal/polymer complex includes a liquid crystal material, a polymer, and a chiral agent. The liquid crystal material exhibits blue phase and contains liquid crystal molecules that are spirally arranged to form liquid crystal molecular cylinders having a spiral arrangement. The polymer maintains the arrangement and has a dendrimer-type structure including a dendrimer unit and a polymerizable unit bonded to an end of the dendrimer unit. The dendrimer unit contains a central atom and at least two branched structures bonded to the central atom and has a generation of two or more. The polymerizable unit contains a polymerizable group which can bond to a polymerizable group.

摘要: A media converter monitors whether a metal cable link is disconnected. If the metal cable link is disconnected, a desired invalid code other than pre-defined codes is successively transmitted toward a fiber optic cable to disconnect its link. If the metal cable link is not disconnected, a first auto negotiation is performed with the metal cable side to set a first line ability, and a second auto negotiation is performed with the fiber optic cable side based on the first line ability to set a second line ability. Subsequently, a third auto negotiation is performed again with the metal cable side based on the second line ability to finally determine the line ability between the metal and the fiber optic cables.

摘要: An ear covering is produced by sewing first and second cloth layers together along a first closed loop seam, and forming a hole inside the loop and extending through both layers; turning the sewn first and second layers inside out by passing one layer through the opening; then passing one of the layers through a passage in a flexible insert in the form of a distorted, truncated cone; placing a third cloth layer over one of the first and second layers and sewing the first second and third cloth layers along a second closed-loop seam, thereby enclosing the insert within a toroidal enclosure formed by portions of the first and second layers. Afterwards, the assembly is turned inside out to form a cup-shaped receptacle for receiving an external ear, with the second seam in the interior of the receptacle, and with the first seam within the toroidal enclosure.

摘要: A liquid crystal display device of this invention includes a substrate having a pixel electrode on one major surface, a liquid crystal layer including first and second liquid crystal microcapsule layers sequentially stacked on the pixel electrode of the substrate, and a counter electrode formed on the liquid crystal layer. Each of the first and second liquid crystal microcapsule layers contains a plurality of aspherical liquid crystal microcapsules each formed by encapsulating a liquid crystal material containing a liquid crystal compound and a dichroic dye with a transparent film. The major axes of aspherical liquid crystal microcapsules contained in the first liquid crystal microcapsule layer are aligned in a first direction. The major axes of aspherical liquid crystal microcapsules contained in the second liquid crystal microcapsule layer are aligned in a second direction different from the first direction.

摘要: The present invention provides a process for the production of glyoxals which comprises effecting the oxidative dehydrogenation of a glycol at a temperature of 400.degree. to 700.degree. C. in the presence of a silver-based catalyst composed of silver and at least one element selected from the group consisting of gold, platinum, rhodium and palladium, and phosphorus or a phosphorus compound, as well as such catalysts. These process and catalysts make it possible to produce high-quality glyoxals in high yield and with industrial advantages while minimizing the contents of unreacted raw material and reaction intermediates such as glycolaldehyde and acetol.
