Abstract: Disclosed are plunger assemblies including various convertible plungers and methods of making the same. Each plunger assembly is configured for disposition within a barrel of a medical container, e.g., a syringe, and displaced within the barrel from an engagement position to a release position. The engagement position is configured to provide a compression seal between a storage sealing section of the plunger and an inner wall of the syringe barrel. In the release position, the compression seal is reduced or eliminated. Also disclosed are methods for making convertible plungers and as assembling them into syringes, e.g., pre-filled syringes.

Abstract: In the present invention, a dripless syringe is provided that includes a barrel having fluid therein, the barrel defining an open end and a nozzle opposite the open end, a plunger disposed at least partially within the open end and including a body and a push pin extending from one end of the body, a seal plate slidably mounted to the push pin and a bung disposed over the seal plate and the push pin and sealingly engaged between the seal plate and the barrel the seal plate enables the bung to remain in sealing engagement with the interior of the barrel while the plunger is moved within the barrel. Further, when pressure is removed to cease dispensing of the fluid, the pin allows the bung to retract and provide a negative pressure on the fluid to prevent drips of fluid from leaking out of the nozzle.

Abstract: A medication cartridge plunger including a sealing member, which is formed of a resilient material, and a force distributing member, which is attached to sealing member and formed of a material more rigid than the resilient material. The force distributing member is shaped complementary with the sealing member to distribute to the sealing member a medication expelling force that may be applied to the force distributing member by an external drive element to drive the plunger forward. The force distributing member includes a radial periphery fit within a hollow of the sealing member. The radial periphery has a plurality of apex regions connected by spanning regions, which apex regions are disposed along a common circle centered on an axial center of the medication cartridge plunger. The spanning regions are disposed within the common circle, and each apex region, relative to the common circle, is not in diametric alignment with any of the other apex regions.

Abstract: An injection system includes a syringe, which preferably includes larger and smaller inner diameters, and a plunger. A wiper sidewall of the plunger defines a cavity, into which a plunger shaft of the system is inserted, for moving the plunger, within the syringe, for fluid injection. The plunger includes a feature for engaging the shaft, and the sidewall preferably includes an expandable-contractible portion, in which the feature is formed. When the plunger is initially mounted within the larger inner diameter of the syringe, the portion of the sidewall is expanded and the feature of the plunger does not operably engage the inserted shaft. When the shaft moves the plunger into the smaller inner diameter of the syringe, the portion of the sidewall contracts and the feature operably engages the shaft. A deformable end wall of the plunger may be spaced apart from a distal terminal end of the inserted shaft.

Abstract: A method of preventing extravaation of contrast agent during a computed tomography injection. An automatic injector device facilitates ease of accomplishing the method. Abstract: A syringe system and components thereof are disclosed. The system may include a syringe body having a hollow lumen, a proximal open end, and a distal end. The syringe body may be configured to house a fluid therein. The syringe system may further include a plunger positioned in the hollow lumen of the syringe body, forming a seal with an inner wall of the syringe body. The plunger may include a removable piston having a shaft extending from the distal end towards the proximal open end, a stopper removably connected to a distal portion of the shaft, and at least one coupler attached to the distal portion of the shaft. The stopper may be configured to slidably move within the hollow lumen to facilitate movement of the fluid within the syringe body. The coupler may be configured to facilitate removal and attachment of the stopper from the piston.
