Abstract:
The present invention provides a gasket for prefilled syringes having both airtightness and operability. The present invention relates to a gasket for prefilled syringes, the gasket including a plurality of circular ribs that are to be in sliding contact with the inner wall of a syringe, the gasket being laminated with an inert film, the plurality of circular ribs including a front circular rib having a front corner with a radius of curvature R1 and a rear corner with a radius of curvature R2, a ratio of the radius of curvature R2 to the radius of curvature R1 being more than 1.
Abstract:
A syringe includes a barrel, a plunger, and a sealing member creating a seal between the plunger and the barrel. The barrel includes a first portion with a first inner diameter and a second portion with a second inner diameter that is larger than the first inner diameter. The sealing member engages the first portion of the barrel to give rise to a first contact pressure when the barrel is filled with product. The first contact pressure is sufficient to maintain a gas-tight seal over the expected temperature ranges −25° C. to 40° C. A first force is applied to the plunger to overcome the first contact pressure and move the plunger out of the first portion and into the second portion to dispense product. The sealing member engages the second portion of the barrel to give rise to a second contact pressure that is lower than the first contact pressure. A second force lower than the first force is sufficient to overcome the second contact pressure and move the plunger in the second portion to continue dispensing product. The syringe may include a restraining element for accommodating expansion of the product during freezing.
Abstract:
A device designed for administering a substance, in particular a medicine, to a part of a human or animal body, comprising a housing provided with a reservoir for holding a certain amount of substance. The reservoir includes a dispensing opening, which is closed in the inactive state, for dispensing the substance from the reservoir, as well as dispensing means for dispensing, in use, an amount of substance via the dispensing opening whilst simultaneously releasing the dispensing opening temporarily.

Abstract:
A medical syringe, having a syringe barrel, a piston, a plunger rod, and a plunger rod holder, wherein a barrel main body of the syringe barrel is formed to have a small inner diameter part and a large inner diameter part, the piston is formed such that the circular part is comprised of an elastic material and has an outer diameter larger than the inner diameter of the small inner diameter part of the barrel main body so that the outer periphery of the circular part can be brought into contact with the inner peripheral surface of the small inner diameter part by pressurizing, and the piston can be held in the large inner diameter part of the barrel main body in a state of being freely fitted thereto.
Abstract:
A fluid delivery device includes a cartridge and a syringe. The cartridge includes a housing and a stopper positioned within a fluid chamber defined by the housing. The syringe includes a needle, and an outer body and an inner core which cooperate to receive at least a portion of the housing. When the fluid delivery device is in a first configuration, at least a portion of the cartridge is positioned within the syringe and the stopper is connected to the inner core. In a second configuration, a lumen defined by the needle is in fluid communication with the fluid chamber. The inner core and stopper are movable distally relative to the outer body and needle as the fluid delivery device is transitioned from the first to the second configuration. In a third configuration, the cartridge and syringe cooperate to disable the fluid delivery device.
Abstract:
A protective sleeve placed within the cylinder of a syringe, the sleeve protects a piston and a computer controlled device or human operator pushing the piston from material leaking past a piston assembly. The sleeve has lips or ridges at either end, one that is attached to the piston assembly at the output end of the syringe and a second lip that is attached with a retention plate at the far end of the syringe. The sleeve may have a bellows or accordion configuration that slides along the inner surface of the syringe cylinder without appreciably loading the drive mechanism.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a cylinder/piston unit having a cylinder and a piston which is guided therein, wherein the cylinder and the piston enclose a chamber which can be filled at least for a time with an additive, and the cylinder has at least one exit element at its front end. Here, the cross section of the chamber or the cross section of the cylinder inner wall is increased at least in regions of the cylinder from the front to the back, wherein the cylinder end having the exit element is at the front. The piston has an elastic skirt at least in the front region, the front outer edge of said elastic skirt defining a cross-sectional area in the case of an unloaded piston, which is greater than an area which is defined by a contour line. The present invention develops a cylinder/piston unit which ensures simple and reliable handling and can be stored for a long time in the filled state, in a manner which is impervious to gas and moisture.
Abstract:
An intravenous catheter placement device having a hollow body and a nose on one end of the hollow body. A needle hub fits within the nose and contains a needle embedded therein. A catheter is free to slide along the needle and substantially covers the shaft of the needle. Winged beams on the needle hub include catches and release tabs that cooperate with slots in the nose to retain the needle hub in the nose. A magnified transparent verification cavity in the needle hub provides for viewing blood flash in the cavity to verify that the intravenous catheter is inserted into the correct location. An energy storage device in contact with the needle hub releasably retains the needle hub to prevent premature projection of the needle hub into the hollow body. Upon insertion of the intravenous catheter and introducer needle into a patient, depressing the release tabs triggers the needle hub and blunts the needle within the catheter and projects the needle hub and embedded needle into the hollow body.
Abstract:
Method and apparatus associated with safe retraction of medical needles after use. Embodiments are disclosed for self-retracting needle systems for both blood draw, syringe and catheter insertion systems. Invention manufacture requires only a minimal number and complexity of parts such that a projected manufacturing cost is potentially low enough to permit the apparatus to be cost competitive with contemporary non-self retracting needle systems. Methods for making and assembling each of the disclosed the embodiments is also disclosed. One blood draw embodiment can be made with as few as three molded parts. Energy-storing, needle-retracting mechanisms comprise elastic tubing and vacuum generating piston parts. In an elastic tubing embodiment, selective, constrictive control of stretched tubing volumes effectively inhibits regurgitant flow from the needle. In all embodiments, needle retraction is a single handed operation permitting a technician's other hand to be used in wound care. A combination of parts, comprising the apparatus housing and a needle cover, are used as a transport container which protects a medical needle from inadvertent contamination with requiring special packaging, thereby, further reducing apparatus costs.
