Abstract: Disclosed are depot formulations comprising a biodegradable silica hydrogel composite, wherein the hydrogel composite comprises (i) a silica hydrogel; and (ii) a plurality of microparticles comprising silica and an oligopeptide or a peptidomimetic compound, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. The depot formulations described herein provide sustained, long-term release of the active pharmaceutical compound. The depot formulations may be implanted in the eye and are useful for treating ocular diseases. The plurality of microparticles comprising silica and an oligopeptide or a peptidomimetic compound, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof can be prepared using a continuous flow process.

Abstract: Devices for protecting a user from a sharp tip of a medical needle includes a central body portion, a medical needle having a sharp tip, a pair of wings in attachment to the central body portion. The medical needle includes a longitudinal axis that is substantially perpendicular to at least one of a long axis of the central body portion and the delivery tube. The pair of wings are selectively positionable in a first position in which the pair of wings are spaced apart from the medical needle and a second position in which the pair of wings are proximate the medical needle. A mechanical fastener is disposed on at least one of the pair of wings, the mechanical fastener configured to selectively attach the pair of wings together in the second position with the medical needle positioned therebetween. Methods of using the device including administering medicinal fluids.

Abstract: A syringe-based device includes a housing and an actuator mechanism including a first member and a second member. The first member includes a syringe body and a plunger, the plunger being movably disposed within the syringe body. The second member includes a second member plunger seal and a valve operably and selectively coupled to the second member plunger seal such that the valve is positioned proximal of the second member plunger seal. The device also includes a first fluid reservoir and a second fluid reservoir. The device transitions from a first configuration to a second configuration in which the first type of fluid is expelled from the first fluid reservoir, to a third configuration in which the second type of fluid is expelled from the second fluid reservoir through the valve.
