Abstract:
A press-die is provided with a lower die and an upper die. The lower die includes a drawing punch, a blank holder, and a cushion part. The upper die includes a drawing die part, and a trimming part. The blank holder includes a first holder part disposed to face to an end portion of the drawing die part, and a second holder part disposed to face to the trimming part. The second holder part has a drawing support portion that supports a first portion of a bottom surface of the first holder part. The drawing punch has a trimming support portion that supports a second portion of the bottom surface of the first holder part. The first holder part has a lower trimming blade at an outer edge thereof. The trimming part has an upper trimming blade at an inner edge thereof.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method and a device for forming a corner bounded on three sides from a flat plate part, in particular sheet metal, whereby the side edges adjacent to the corner are folded back across a major part of their longitudinal extension parallel with the flat plate part and shaped on a curved path in the region in which the corner is to be formed from the folded-back side edge to the plane of the flat plate part. The pre-formed blank is then pressed at the curved transition region by means of at least one roller system (42), spanning the corner region (10) between the side edges, against a tool (16) and the corner shaped by forming the material and optionally trimmed in a cutting device.
Abstract:
The dynamic loading on a double action high speed mechanical cupping press is substantially reduced with multiple stage tooling which forms a batch of cups from a strip of sheet metal with each stroke of the press. Each tooling stage includes a plurality of annular draw pads each opposing a corresponding annular blank and draw die. An annular cut edge surrounds each of the draw pads, and a corresponding die center punch is located within each of the draw pads. The tooling stages are positioned at predetermined stepped elevations so that they sequentially blank the sheet metal to form a series of circular disk-like blanks between the cut edges and the corresponding blank and draw dies, sequentially hold the blanks between the draw pads and corresponding blank and draw dies, and sequentially draw the blanks into cups with the die center punches extending into the corresponding blank and draw dies. The tooling stages are symmetrically positioned with respect to the press center line, and each set of tooling is constructed for convenient removal and replacement for servicing.

Abstract:
A cup feeding mechanism for a bodymaker includes a guide chute defining a vertical path with a stop located at the lower end of the path defining a transfer area. The stop has a specifically configured area for receiving each cup and defining a fixed position for the cup in the transfer area. A drive member is reciprocated transversely of the path and picks up cups from the transfer area and positively drives them into alignment with a ram that extends perpendicular to the axis of the path so that the cups are maintained in accurate alignment with the ram prior to being transferred through the bodymaker.
Abstract:
A deep-drawing and edge-trimming tool assembly for the shaping of workpieces with an upstanding peripheral edge flange and the subsequent trimming of the outer edge of the edge flange, the assembly comprising a vertically and horizontally movable bolster plate carrying a pressure ring and a drawing ring which cooperates with a stationary drawing punch arranged above the bolster plate, so that the drawing ring is movable downwardly, for a deep-drawing operation and, in its lowermost position, is also movable horizontally in four directions, for a sequential edge trimming operation, in cooperation with the lower peripheral edge of the stationary drawing punch.
Abstract:
A method of producing a metal can or similar object by drawing and ironing wherein subsequent to the drawing process the edge of the can or object is cut to size, while the can or object is rotated about its longitudinal axis, by means of a laser beam whereby the deformation properties of the edge are improved.
Abstract:
Apparatus for drawing, or blanking and drawing, a flat metallic piece into a cup shape. A blanking punch, blanking die, draw die, movable stripper and a spacer are mounted on the stationary bed of a press. A pressure pad and draw punch are carried by the ram of a press. The pressure pad is positioned to contact first the blanking punch, then to contact the movable stripper and push it solidly against the spacer. As the ram continues its downward movement, the pressure pad collapses with respect to the ram by virtue of its connection to a piston operating in a cylinder in the ram containing controllable air pressure. The maintenance of a predetermined pressure pad-draw die gap during the draw prevents wrinkling, and the maintenance of the controlled pressure on the pressure pad prevents thinning and subsequent clipping of ears. The edge of the blank which is captured between the pressure pad and draw die is gradually pulled radially inward as the die approaches the bottom of its stroke and the wrinkling and thinning and clipping of ears of the blank which would take place during this pulling is prevented. On the upstroke of the ram air is injected into the draw punch to assist in stripping the finished cup from the punch, and the blanking punch and mounting plate are raised by springs, and the movable stripper raises the scrap upward for removal.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for forming an integrally-shaped brake disk for a vehicle. The method comprises heating the brake disk material, and maintaining the material heated while it is inserted between upper and lower dies of the apparatus. The central and outer peripheral portions of the material are pressed and held. The intermediate portion between the central and outer peripheral portions is drawn and shaped by relative motion between the dies. The material is continuously quenched while it is maintained pressed and held.
