A piston (36) divides the valve interior into a main chamber (38) and a sensing chamber (40). A fixed valve seat (26) sealingly engages the piston (36) to close communication between the chambers (38, 40). The seat (26) is carried by an axial stem (20) which extends through an opening (42) in the piston (36). A flange (46) caried by the piston (36) engages a flange (80) formed on a hat-shaped retainer (72) to which the valve element (62) is attached. The valve (8) preferably has a manual drain lever (88).

A steam trap is provided with two paths through which fluid flows from itsnput to its output. One path constitutes a control path wherein a small amount of steam or condensate continuously flows through restrictive orifices connected in series between the input and the output. The other path constitutes a main flow path in which a quiet throttling element having a plurality of resistive flow passages and having a moveable valve plug, controls the amount of fluid flowing therethrough. The position of the valve plug and a control piston connected thereto is a function of the fluid flow through the control path between the two orifices; the input and discharge fluid pressures; and a spring connected to the control piston.

Apparatus for producing dry compressed air comprises a compressor, a separator to remove condensates, an adsorption filter to filter and dry the air and a storage tank. A valve for controlling reverse flow of air from the storage tank through the filter to the atmosphere to regenerate the adsorption filter when the compressor stops is controlled by a moisture sensitive device so that reverse flow is permitted only if the moisture control of the compressed air is above a predetermined value. The opening of a tap to discharge collected liquid from the separator is controlled by a pneumatically operated valve system so that no electrical control is required.

The valve means comprises a pair of valves for collecting the moisture separated from the pressurized fluid stream applied to the tank and automatically and periodically discharging the moisture and all other contaminants separated by the tank during the passage of the pressurized fluid stream thru the tank.
