Abstract: A measurement apparatus includes a measuring rod with a contact surface for contacting a workpiece. One or more proximity sensors is mounted on the measuring rod adjacent the contact surface. A brake shoe, responsive to the output of the proximity sensor, is provided to automatically clamp the rod in place when the sensor detects a surface interruption in the workpiece in order to prevent the rod from dipping into the interruption. The apparatus also includes a pair of leaf springs arranged to lift the rod and to separate the contact surface from the workpiece when the rod is clamped by the brake shoe.

Abstract: Measuring apparatus for measuring the diameter of a workpiece over an extended range thereof being provided with first and second feelers adapted to engage the workpiece and respectively being mounted on first and second hold blocks. To achieve a high measuring accuracy, the spacing between the first and second hold blocks is controlled by a single threaded portion only formed on a motor-driven feed shaft, the shaft being rotatably supported in the first of the hold blocks but threadedly engaging a support thereof for causing the first hold block to move in one direction and being threadedly engaged with the second of the hold blocks for causing it to move in an opposite direction by twice as far upon rotation thereof by the driving motor therefor.

Abstract: A fruit-on-tree sizing device includes a lower annular disc and an upper annular disc, from which first flexible arms and second flexible arms, with curved configuration, start internally, in opposite directions, and which respectively form a lower opening and an upper opening wherein the fruit is positioned. As the diameter of the fruit increases, the first flexible arms and the second flexible arms force the upper annular disc and the lower annular disc to rotate on themselves, in opposite directions. The device further includes a reading module intended for quantifying the relative movement of the upper annular disc with respect to the lower annular disc, and transmitter which transmits the measurements obtained to an external device.

Another embodiment provides a method of measuring the outer diameter of a tire, the method comprising: providing a tire measurement apparatus; placing the tire measurement apparatus in contact with a tire, where the two or more tire contacting members are arranged along an outer diameter of the tire along a tread of the tire; and, measuring the tire to indicate a measurement or size of the tire, where a measurement or size is generated.

Abstract: A deformation detection apparatus includes a cell movement-control assembly to handle a linear motion and a rotational motion of a battery cell, a body that supports the cell movement-control assembly, a digital micrometer, and control circuitry. The control circuitry controls a displacement of the battery cell between a first position and a second position along a longitudinal axis through a scanning region of the digital micrometer and a plurality of rotational positions of the battery cell at a plurality of charge states and a plurality of discharge states. The control circuitry measures a plurality of outer diameter values of the battery cell for a plurality of linear positions and a plurality of rotational positions along the longitudinal axis of the battery cell and determines a change in a geometrical shape (deformation and/or strain) of the battery cell for the plurality of linear positions and the plurality of rotational positions.
