    摘要: A base mounting portion connects the gimbal spring to a load beam and thereby to the actuator of the disc drive which positions the gimbal and slider over a desired track on the disc. The gimbal includes opposed spaced flexure arms which are formed of elongated members, each having a proximal end and a distal end which define an opening therebetween. The proximal ends of the flexure arms are operably coupled to the base, and the distal ends are cantilevered. A mounting tab is positioned between the ends of the flexure arms and supports the slider. Bridge sections are provided which connect the distal ends of the flexure arms to the mounting tab, the bridge sections extending at an angle relative to the flexure arms and being angled back toward the base section of the gimbal. The bridge sections support a limiter extending over said load beam to limit vertical movement of said load beam.

    摘要: A head support assembly for a disk drive is comprised of a head suspension assembly connected to an actuator arm at one end and supporting a head at the other end, wherein a projection is formed on a flexure closely fixed on a thin-plate load beam, said projection projecting toward a disk surface and having a smooth surface. The projection is formed at a region somewhat close to the head supporting end from the hinge portion of the load beam. When shock is applied to the disk drive, bending occurs around the hinge portion of the load beam. During such bending, the projection having a smooth round surface is caused to contact the disk, whereby the disk surface is prevented from being damaged.

    摘要: A joined metal-resin plate body having a metal plate (1, 12) and a resin plate (2, 13) joined together, in which an insert member having a through-hole therein is embedded in the resin plate. The insert member is in close contact with the resin of the resin plate in the outer periphery of the insert member except for the faces where the through-hole opens. The metal plate has a metallic joining member (4, 16) adhered thereto. The resin plate is joined to the metal plate with the aid of the joining member fitted in the through-hole. The insert member and the surrounding resin have elastic stresses (F3, F4), which give rise to a sufficient joining strength among the joining member, the insert member and the resin plate. The stress of the surrounding resin is due to elastic deformation. The amount (V2-V3) of the elastic deformation is smaller than the amount (V2) of deformation of the insert member which can give rise to an elastic stress (F3) of the insert member.

A loose hole (9) larger than and substantially concentric with the pivot hole is formed through the plate (3). The plates (3, 7) have improved flatness, and the pivot hole has improved accuracy.

    摘要: A disc drive assembly has an actuator for moving an actuator arm above the surface of a rotating disc. A suspension connects a slider to the actuator arm and maintains the slider substantially engaged with the disc surface in the absence of a shock event. A head-slap arrestor attached to the actuator arm includes a finger extending over the suspension so that the head-slap arrestor does not contact the suspension in the absence of a shock event. The finger of the head-slap arrestor pivots into engagement with the suspension during a shock event to maintain the slider substantially engaged with the disc surface. The force applied by the finger of the head-slap arrestor to the suspension is directly related to the force of the shock event.

    摘要: A system and a method for increasing suspension resonance frequencies of a head suspension assembly of a disc drive includes, in one example embodiment, attaching a base plate to an actuator arm assembly of the disc drive such that the base plate including the actuator arm assembly are in actuating relationship with a rotating disc of the disc drive. A two-piece suspension member having a first and second pieces is attached to the base plate. A gimbal is attached to the two-piece suspension member such that a predetermined bendable area is formed between the first and second pieces and on the gimbal having a stiffer preload bend radius. A stiffer preload bend radius provides a higher stiffness-to-mass ratio without increasing the spring rate of the head suspension assembly to increase suspension resonance frequencies of the head suspension assembly to fall outside a bandwidth of a servo drive to reduce off-track motion of the head suspension assembly during track follow-and-seek operations of the disc drive.
