摘要: A method and apparatus for controlling transmission power in a variable rate communication system is disclosed. The method disclosed provides for a closed loop power control method. A first remote station controls the transmission power of a second remote station by transmitting a rate dependent power control signal to the second remote communication station. Since only the second communication knows its transmission rate a priori, it must determine its course of action in accordance with both the received power control signal and the knowledge of its transmission rate. In the present invention, the power control system reduces the amount of overhead required by restricting the possible rate transition of the variable rate communication system. The power control system further increases its efficiency by allocating the power control bits top various rate hypotheses in accordance with the probability of the rate hypothesis and the perceptual impact of power control for frames of data transmitted at the hypothetical rate.

摘要: A method (300) and apparatus (200) provide for determining when a digital packet data signal and a voice signal are being concomitantly transmitted on a voice channel of a communication system. A sample of the transmitted signal (110) is compared (310) to a pre-transmitted sample of the digital packet data signal (108). In response to the comparison, a digital packet data transceiver hops (314-320) from the first voice channel to a different voice channel for transmitting the digital packet data signal when voice signals are present.

摘要: On selecting as a selected channel at a base station in response to a channel assignment request one of transmission channels of a cellular mobile radio communication network when this channel is given a higher updated priority degree in accordance with an interference signal power received through this channel while such requests are not present and furthermore when a CIR of this channel is above a preselected CIR threshold level, the CIR threshold level is selected in dependency on the updated priority degrees given to the transmission channels. Preferably, the CIR threshold level is low and high if the updated priority degree of each channel is high and low at the base station, respectively.

摘要: Transceiver frequency and optionally power level are allocated to a radio personal communications system which includes a base station connected to a wire telephone network and a cellular terminal operating within a region of a wide area cellular network to minimize interference between communications over the wide area cellular network and communications between the base station and the cellular terminal. The same cellular terminal may thus be used to communicate over the lower cost wire network when within range of the base station and over the wide area cellular network otherwise. The frequency for communications between the cellular terminal and the base station are optionally assigned by the operator of the wide area cellular network so appropriate frequencies and power levels can be assigned for base stations, to minimize same channel interference with the wide area cellular network.

摘要: In a cordless communications system, such as DECT, data is transmitted to or from a data terminal in an assigned channel in each TDMA frame. In order to accommodate data terminals having lower data rates than the capacity of the channel, such a data terminal accumulates its data during several frames in a buffer store until the accumulated data corresponds to the channel capacity, and is then transmitted in the frame in which that occurs. In order to utilize such interruptions in transmission from a plurality of low rate data terminals, the system control terminal treats each successive sequence of a predetermined number of frames (FR0 to FR15) as a multiframe, and transmissions from low rate data terminals are assigned to multiplexed frames which minimize the number of unoccupied channels in each multiframe.

摘要: A frequency control system for a dual-mode radiotelephone (152-238; 252-320) operative to receive either an FM signal or a DQPSK signal. In a first embodiment, when operative to receive the FM signal, the frequency of the reference oscillator (192) of the radiotelephone (152-222) is maintained in a fixed relation with the frequency of the FM signal. When operative to receive the DQPSK signal, the reference oscillator (192) is maintained in a fixed relation with the frequency of the DQPSK signal as determined by a digital signal processor (212). In a second embodiment, when operative to receive the FM signal, the frequency of an offset control oscillator (320) is maintained in a fixed relation with the frequency of the FM signal. When operative to receive the DQPSK signal, the reference oscillator (292) is maintained in a fixed relation with the frequency of the DQPSK signal as determined by a digital signal processor (312).

摘要: A spread spectrum receiver subsystem for utilization in a CDMA cellular telephone having a searcher receiver for scanning the time domain so as to use the PN processing gain and time discrimination properties of spread spectrum coding to determine the location in the time domain and the received signal strength of multiple receptions of a pilot signal traveling upon one or more physical propagation paths to reception. The searcher receiver provides a control signal indicative of the received pilot signals of greatest strength and corresponding time relationship. A data receiver receives spread spectrum communication signals accompanying each received pilot signal and is responsive to the searcher control signal for acquiring and demodulating a spread spectrum communication signal, concomitant with the pilot signal of greatest signal strength, and thus providing a corresponding information bearing encoded output signal.

摘要: For use in a common service area of a plurality of radio base stations, each being preassigned with a radio channel and for transmitting a channel status signal indicative of whether the radio channel is idle or busy, a terminal station (14) comprises a monitoring circuit (37) for cyclically monitoring the channel status signals of the respective base stations to produce an internal signal when the radio channel is found idle for one of the base stations that has a highest priority for the terminal status. Responsive to the internal signal, a control circuit (29) inhibits the cyclic monitoring for other base station or stations. The priority is decided by a measuring circuit (27) for measuring field intensities of the respective channel status signals. When the base stations are three in number, operation of the monitoring circuit is inhibited for the channel status signal of a lowest-priority base station when both radio channels of two other base stations are idle.
