摘要: A dynamoelectric machine (1), having brushes which contact an armature contact surface such as commutator (6) or slip rings, is provided with a plurality of independent, individually removable brush holders (10, 100). Each brush holder is provided with either a removable pin (102) to allow brushes to contact the armature contact surface after the brush holder (10, 100) has been installed, or with a clamping bolt (40), retaining brushes (8) in a predetermined position for insertion of the brush holder, and removal of the brush holder, the brush holder being tilted or cocked to avoid contact between it and the armature contact surface. Bolting the brush holder (10, 100) into place makes electrical contact between the dynamoelectric machine and the brush holder by means of an insulated, conductive threaded aperture (34) on the exterior service of the machine, a mounting bolt (24) inserted into this aperture (34) urging a conductive portion (20) of the brush holder into electrical contact. The brush holder (10, 100) may be further provided with a rotatable spring support (212) for varying the pressure exerted on the brushes, and a measuring scale (216) for correlating the length of partially worn brush with an angular position of the spring support, to facilitate adjustment of brush pressure as brushes wear. Angular adjustment of the position of the spring support may also serve to lift certain types of brushes into a retracted position. The disclosed brush pressure adjustment structure is also usable with non-removable brush holders.

摘要: A circuit for selecting between two or more detecting elements, such as magnetic pickups or resonant sensors (10, 12, 14) or (132, 134) spaced around a rotating member (15a, 157) to generate timing signals for an ignition system for an engine (15, 156) is disclosed. One disclosed embodiment is usable with a conventional mechanical advance to provide an additional advance above a predetermined vehicle (102) speed, and which may be negated by a vacuum switch (119) if the engine (156) is under heavy load. Another disclosed embodiment utilizes a plurality of such sensors (10, 12, 14) to provide a step-type ignition advance for an engine (15).

摘要: A wear-indicating brush and warning circuit adapted to convey an indication to an operator that a dynamoelectric machine provided with such a brush is in need of maintenance before the brush wears to the point that a rotor contact surface is damaged by contact with electrical connections to the brush are disclosed. A brush (10) having current carrying pigtail leads (16) embedded therein includes a wear-detecting wire (20) embedded in the brush a short distance (A) beyond the lowest extent of the pigtail leads (16). The wire (20) is insulated over its periphery, including its tip (24), the insulation (26) being abraded by contact with the rotor contact surface (50), so that the wire (20) senses the voltage present thereon. Non-latching warning circuits (66, 66a) are disclosed, with and without the use of an isolating resistor within the dynamoelectric machine to permit the use of a single wire between the machine and the warning circuit. Also disclosed is a warning circuit for indicating that an input is electrically connected to a voltage, for indicating that a line (20) has contacted a rotor contact surface. The voltage sensed may be negative or positive, over a wide range, so that the positioning and number of brushes (10) is irrelevant. The circuit (92) includes an oscillating voltage source (122) and comparison circuits (122, 124, 128) giving a warning indication when an input line is connected to a voltage and is unable to follow the oscillating voltage.

摘要: A font storage system for use in a typesetter having an electronically controlled character imaging device. The storage system, which preferably includes a floppy disk, has digital information stored thereon defining each character to be typeset by at least two outlines on a normalized X-Y grid. The digital information defining each character includes (1) digital numbers defining the X and Y coordinates of the initial start points of the outline and (2) digital numbers defining a plurality of straight line vectors extending successively along the character outlines. Each vector has a first digital number representing the X coordinate distance and a second digital number representing the Y coordinate distance from one end of the vector to the other.

摘要: The output shaft of an electric motor is supported by a ballbearing mounted on the motor end plate. The outer race of the ballbearing is positioned in a cup having a semispherical portion. The motor end plate includes a socket portion to receive the semispherical portion of the cup. A retainer plate of spring metal is mounted on the motor end plate. A plurality of resilient finger-like extensions on the retainer plate press the outer race in the cup and the cup in the socket. The cup swivels in the socket. By reason of that, the outer race can be shifted with respect to the inner race, and the entire bearing can be shifted with respect to the motor end plate. A collar, containing a plurality of legs, the ends of which define a plane perpendicular to the shaft axis, is slid down the shaft. The legs pass through a like plurality of holes located in the end plate to contact the cup. Pressing the legs against the cup causes it to swivel in the socket until all the legs contact the cup. When this happens, the inner and outer races are coplanar and therefore aligned. The collar is then removed and filler material is injected into the holes to secure the cup in place on motor end plate.

摘要: A dispenser reel and container are integrated into a unitary foldable structure which when folded into an assembled configuration, is suitable for the shipping and dispensing of a spool of wire, cable, and the like, that may be wound on a spindle or other hollow cylindrical core device. In one embodiment, the invention is fabricated out of flat corrugated paperboard that is easily cut to appropriate dimensions and provided with fold creases or score lines that make it readily foldable around the packaged spool of cable or the like. In said one embodiment, the cut corrugated paperboard comprises two interconnected substantially rectangular portions and two interconnected substantially circular portions, each circular portion having partially cut fold-out wing portions. The substantially rectangular portions, which form two of the walls of the container, have margin portions along their perimeters which form the remaining four walls of the container when they are folded into place. A first circular portion is integral to a selected margin portion, while the second circular portion is connected to the first by a bridge which also functions as a stand for the assembled dispensing reel. The fold-out wing portions are folded into the center of the reel to form a spindle upon which a spool of dispensable product such as cable is to be mounted. In one embodiment, the fold-out wing portions have interlockable tabs that provide means for locking the wing portions together into a secure spindle configuration.

摘要: A permanent magnet motor is provided which has first and second U-shaped sections comprising the motor stator. Each section is constructed of low reluctance magnetic material. The motor armature shaft passes through a hole in the bight of each section and carries a commutator. An air space separates the bight and shaft to provide a high reluctance path to the shaft. The two parallel sides of the first section fit between the two sides of the second section in a contact relation; the combination defining a two piece magnetic circuit that passes around the motor from end to end. The first section contains a permanent magnet mounted upon each of the sides at diametrically opposite locations adjacent the armature. The flux coupling the two magnets passes through the armature core. The magnets define a pole pair and are spaced very close to the edge of the armature core to minimize the air gap between the armature and the magnet. The first section is unbroken and provides a homogeneous flux path between the magnets. The second section provides a parallel-secondary flux path from the magnets. Additional low reluctance material is included on the bight of each section to compensate for the increased reluctance resulting from the hole through which the armature passes. Positioning stops are provided on the second section, which contact the first section as it is positioned, to establish the proper distal relation between the bights to accommodate the armature and commutator.
