摘要: A porous-wall compact diffuser designed for chemical laser applications. The laminar boundary layer in the diffuser is removed through the porous wall by suction provided by a chemical pump concept, thereby stabilizing the normal shock wave in the supersonic flow channel at the juncture with the wide-angle subsonic diffuser section.

摘要: Vulcanizable rubber compositions and articles such as tires having improved metal adhesion and metal adhesion retention to brass and brass-plated metallic reinforcement. The improvement comprises substituting at least about 10.0 parts by weight of a halogenated rubber for non-halogenated rubber present in the vulcanizable rubber composition. The non-halogenated rubber can be natural or synthetic or blends thereof. A method for improving the metal adhesion and metal adhesion retention between a vulcanizable rubber and brass or brass-plated metallic reinforcement includes the steps of blending at least about 10.0 parts by weight of a halogenated rubber with up to about 90.0 parts by weight of a vulcanizable rubber essentially free of other halogenated rubber and curing the blend of rubbers with the brass or brass-plated metallic reinforcement embedded therein.

摘要: To switch a first gated diode switch (GDS1) to the "OFF" state requires a voltage applied to the gate which is more positive than that of the anode or cathode and a sourcing of current into the gate of substantially the same order of magnitude as flows between the anode and cathode of the first switch. Control circuitry, which uses a second gated diode switch (GDSC) coupled by the cathode to the gate of the first switch (GDS1), is used to control the state of the first switch (GDS1). The control circuitry comprises a first branch circuit coupled to the gate of GDSC and to a first potential source +V1, a second branch circuit coupled to the anode of GDSC and to a second potential source +V2, and a third branch circuit coupled to the anode of GDSC and to a third potential source +V3. The first branch circuit is connected to the gate of the second switch (GDSC) and controls the state thereof. The second branch circuit maintains the state of the load switch (GDS1) and is adapted to supply up to a preselected maximum amount of current into the anode of GDSC and then to automatically reduce the amount of supplied current substantially. The third branch circuit is used to provide a surge of current during a current break operation to turn GDS1 to an OFF state.

摘要: An engine roughness sensor for generating speed normalized digital roughness signals indicative of the variations in magnitude between successive torque impulses imparted to the engine's crankshaft by measuring the period or time it takes the crankshaft to rotate through the same angle for each torque impulse is disclosed herein. The digital roughness signal is normalized as a function of engine speed by dividing the measured magnitude of each torque impulse by a signal indicative of the engine speed to reduce the magnitude of operator induced variations in the generated roughness signals. The disclosed engine roughness sensor generates a second difference roughness signal which is the difference between the sequentially generated roughness signals.

摘要: Natural occurring thermoplastic resins are used as a substitute for process oils and/or hydrocarbon resins, as well as for tackifiers, softeners, extenders, processing aids, and cure retarders, in rubber stocks, as for example, a rubber skim stock used in making a tire. The resins, which are derived from crude wood rosin, are high melting thermoplastic resins having carboxylic acid groups and are insoluble in aliphatic hydrocarbons. The source of the natural occurring resins is in ample supply as they are obtained from pine trees grown in North America. A specific type of thermoplastic resin is Vinsol, a registered trademark of Hercules Corporation.

A source of electromagnetic pumping energy is disposed adjacent to the optical waveguide and has an emission axis that is directed toward the optical waveguide. An optically reflective surface is disposed towards the optical waveguide and may be configured as an enclosure disposed about at least a portion of the optical waveguide. An index matching material may be disposed within the enclosure and in contact with at least a portion of the optical waveguide.

摘要: A permeable barrier for decontaminating groundwater having two distinct components for increasing contaminant removal. Preferably, the barrier material is a mixture or distinct layers of bone-char phosphate material and iron oxide pellets. The barrier material can be incorporated as part of a shallow trenching decontamination system, or incorporated in a non-pumping well, or array of non-pumping wells, as part of a deep underground decontamination system. The system can be used for removing, among other things, a radionuclide, such as uranium, from water.
